hi-is it possible to have the laptop screen bright at all times in spite of the battery saving device, which kind of "switch it off"?

I KNOW there is often a setting for this, but it looks like it isn't standard, at least on XP. Go to power management, probably the company one(As I recall, toshiba and asus BOTH have such options). They often have a setting for precise characteristics regarding CPU speed, and display intensity. The STANDARD ones apparently only deal with time until screen saver, screen off, disk off, standby, hibernate, and warnings. Look under power options or MAYBE display.

BTW screen brightness is often one of the BIGGEST power drains, so don't expect perhaps even HALF the use out of the computer on battery.

On my Macbook Pro there are two buttons on the keyboard that can adjust the screen brightness..... even with auto-dim on.
