Watermelon: Icy cold or room temperature???

There not many things that are better than an icy cold watermelon on a hot Summer day.

I like mine chilled in a cooler of ice, and I eat it with a knife.

What made me ask the question was remembering my grandfather. He ate his cold, but salted it before eating. He's the reason I use a knife.

I know some use a fork, some use a spoon, and some (like my son) just bury their face into the slice.

What's your watermelon-style?

(In case you didn't know, to pick the best watermelon of the bunch, thump them and listen for one with the deepest hollow sound. It will be sweet and ripe.)

Not an ice cold but not warm. It should be just cool.

Some people also eat it with bread and cheese!

I like it all year around as it is a good water-based fruit. Fills me up and taste great as well. Besides grapes, watermelon is the only fruit I really like. Although, I did like the "Grapple", which was a grape-apple hybrid, but those are hard to find...

I'll take mine at room temp - maybe a little colder.

I guess I'll give salt a try but I've never heard of using it before today.

    Can I try pepper also???

Its weird but salt can add to the taste.Don't get me wrong, I love watermelon just plain too,but I definitely think pepper would be a negative taste!

Well seeing that I have a few watermelon vines growing in my garden, I will let you all know how good they taste organically grown, how watery and sweet they will all be in about 2 months from now

I eat year it round too - when I can find it in Winter that is. Most restaurants stop serving it then and the grocery stores just sell slices instead of the whole melon.

With or without salt works too - its just a great fruit - except for the rind of course.

Tried it once spiked too - everclear - don't remember that time, so guess I liked it

I like them spiked - rum is good with watermelon. There are a few spiked fruit recipes I really really like. Pineapple is good with rum, too.

I have a general aversion to fruit (no sweet tooth), but will always enjoy watermelon.

Refrigerator temperature is best for me. Thoroughly refreshing without overt sweetness.

Oh I like it icy cold in the dead heat of summer and I'm eating it outside, nothing beats it. Otherwise room temperature is good.
