Do you have a favorite candy bar?

I don't eat a lot of them, but a couple of times a year I like:

1. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

2. Mounds (No almond joy...If I feel like a nut I eat #1 or #3)

3. Baby Ruth

Know what's funny? Since it's been years since I've eaten sweets (with
the exception of my wife's oatmeal cookies) I can't eat that stuff anymore.

I tried a bite of just some plain pound cake once at my in law's about a year
or so ago and it was so sweet I couldn't eat it.

I am absolutely convinced that sugar is an acquired taste. If it wasn't, I'd
be able to just pick right back up eating this stuff again, but I can't.

My wife's cookies are just marginally sweet (just a little brown sugar, mostly
oatmeal, butter and raisins) so they're easy to eat. But commercial stuff?

          Forget it. Makes me sick.

Yep, sugar really is an acquired taste. And you can unacquire it...

When I first went to live and work in a 3rd world country, I couldn't find any decent chocolate/candy to buy.

Two years later, when I went back to the UK, and took my first big bite out of the yummy, delicious, highest-quality-cocoa-beans bar of chocolate I'd been dreaming of for so long, I nearly gagged and threw up.

It was so sweet it made my teeth hurt.

I've noticed that Chinese pastry -- even Western stye cakes -- is less sweet than other places. Not sure why North Americans and Westerners in general heap so much sugar into everything. What I do know is that adult-onset diabetes is a major problem in Western countries -- I wonder why.

Yes, I ate a lot of candy bars.
Well, I like 1,2,4,5,8,9,and 10. MAYBE 3, MAYBE. I ALSO like almonds joy, and ALL of the reeses products except for the one that has the crispy "peanutbutter" like butterfinger.

And sugar mainly attracts because it is sweet. Things in nature that are sweet to some degree usually have carbs that are relatively quick, so it makes sense. You CAN get to the point where a lot of sugar seems WAY too sweet but, in my case, you can all too quickly get accustomed to it. 8-(

Oh, and YEAH, I ate WAY too much candy also! I probably ate an average of 1 candybar every day of my life, and that doesn't include OTHER sweets. 8-(

Of currently available bars, I like Cadbury Fruit and Nut, hands down.

However, when I was a kid, there was a store near our house that carried a bar called Seven Up. It was like seven boxed chocolates stacked together in a candy bar. That was my absolute favorite. They stopped making it in the very early 70's I think.

But I'm like Steven in this. I've been doing Body for Life for a couple of years and now most desserts are just WAY too sweet.

One weekend on my free day I tried drinking a grape soda. It tasted like pure syrup.

    -K

(Interesting reason it was retired: 7-Up bought the company and retired the bar for the use of the name - so they could use either 7-Up or Seven-Up.)

There is a restaurant chain here in Canada, Swiss Chalet. You'd love them, they serve a Lindts chocolate bar with Chicken dinners.

Double Dark Chocolate Zone Bar - only 190 calories and has protein and vitamins. It's lunch or breakfast most days.

When I am being a little bad Mars Dark Chocolate.

Way bad (hardly ever anymore) Mounds or Reeses (dying to try the new dark chocolate version) or Rocky Road.

I LOVE to have at least one Dove Dark Chocolate a day. Good for the heart (or so they say).

But I don't believe that all candy is an acquired taste. Being in the military, we could go into the remotest of places, and chocolate would always give us the highest bartering power. It's rare to find someone that doesn't like it.
