What is your favorite antivirus?

Just asking about this one because I'm bit frustrated now on my new installed antivirus, I can't say the name to protect its developer. This antivirus really make my computer crawl, even I have 2 gig of ram and dual core processor.

Now, I will back using ESET Smart Security, this is good for me so far.

How about you?

        What's AVG like?

Earlier my favorite was Norton but as it was to heavy that my pc couldn't bear that and i noticed a decrement in the speed so i switched to Avast. I have been using it for the last 2-3 months and i am very impressed by its performance. Every time i connects the internet it update itself automatically without lowering the browsing speed. So currently my favorite is Avast.

There are some antiviruses which are too heavy that they affects the performance of the computer, and they are 100% secure. But i think that what is the use of that anti virus which makes your 100% secure but you can't work on it. I was using this type of antivirus and the same problem was with me that i can't work properly on my pc so i switched to Avast and i am satisfied with its performance.

i just realized i posted something that has nothing to do with antivirus........ -_-. personally i dont think antivirus really works. becoz its like when u purchase them, only will you see loads of viruses u have. which kinda makes me thing, do these antivirus programs invent the viruses itself??

i know its kinda stupid, u have to have the program so you know, but if we just get programs that defended from such things, that would be enough right???

    what do you guys think?

A lady called me with a virus problem - it seems that she clicked a malicious link sent to her through yahoo instant messenger.

Norton anti-virus / internet security did not protect her computer from infection.

I took her hard drive out and slaved it into another system. Free AVG was then used to scan the drive. Free AVG was unable to remove all of the infection.

Free AVG was removed and Avast Free Antivirus was installed. So far, Avast has found more infected files then either norton or AVG.

I'll find out today if the Avast anti-virus has been able to clean the infection.

At work we use Computer Associates (CA) corporate anti-virus. At home I use free AVG, but I'am probably going to switch to free Avast.

Several months ago we were using Panda security suite, but it did not prevent malware infections - so it came time to renew, we went with CA.

If anyone wants a license to upgrade from avast free antivirus to avast internet securtiy which is, A COMPLETE SECURITY for your pc, and it's not a resource hog. If you don't have money to buy an expensive security solution? avast free internet is your way to go, if you feel that your Complete Internet Security matters to you over some bucks? avast internet security is for you.

The latest free Avast 5 has a much more conventional and
sensible control panel than previous versions. Also it provides
in the normal display properties a nice screensaver which
also quick scans your computer when active.
The registration process is almost immediate via the Avast
control panel without email and entering licence info.

All very slick and effective ... plus you can actually schedule
a startup bootsector scan which gets rid of pesky rootkits ....
or wait until Avast sets this up automatically upon detection
of one of these rootkit nasties.

Have used Avast for a good few years now... and never
had a single issue on any of our computers.

ESET Smart Security is effective and it doesnt interfere at all if you are working on your pc. I personally hate when antivirus claim to run silently and then they consume all your pc resources... Eset is really good in that aspect and it warns you when you are checking a risky site. good product.

I like avast but I always scan once a week with malwarebytes too. They both work great and are free and the best thing about avast is unlike some programs, if you need to do something with your pc and have to turn the anti virus off for a second-two clicks and you are done. Some of those things where you have to separately turn off about 15 different components drive me nuts! lol

At the end of the day the best antivirus is using good discretion.

No AV is 100%. They all miss infections that others pick up. New threats can remain active for days, weeks, months or even years before any AV detects them.
