Every once in a while when I think I'm pretty smart, life happens and puts me in my place. What's some of the dumb (but harmless) stuff you've done? Once I put the ice cream "away" in the cupboard, instead of the freezer. It wasn't good. I also grabbed my ex's hair spray accidently instead of my Right Guard...I must admit, my armpit hairs were extra manageable all day. |

Sewing through my thumb when I was eight and a half months pregnant and too big to position myself properly in front of the machine. Sending youngest daughter into school with a very boozy and incriminating shopping list to give to the teacher instead of the intended consent form for a school trip. Sending oldest son into school on the last day of term with what I thought was his tape of Pokemon episodes, only to find out later that it was revealed in front of a startled teacher and a class full of confused six year olds to be a tape of Stephen King's horror film, 'Christine'. Tipping the contents of a new jar of instant coffee into a storage cannister and then pouring water from the just-boiled kettle into the cannister instead of into the cup that was next to it. Uploading new code to a website, refreshing the page to find that it has had no effect and then rewriting said code, uploading it and realising that the changes have mysteriously still had no effect and then finally twigging that my FTP is still logged on to the site which I'd been working on previously (which then has to be worked on again to repair whatever damage I've just done). I've done this one more than once. I'm also prone to keying the total that the cashier has just announced into the card reader at the supermarket checkout instead of my PIN number. I do this one fairly regularly. Probably lots more that don't immediately spring to mind too. I sometimes think that 'dozy' should have been my middle name. |

Diana, It sounds like you try to do too much at once. Yeah, I HATE it when I have to work on 2 or more systems at once. Sooner or later, you are BOUND to get them mixed up. I've done that but, in my case, it is usually only good, or the wrong system doesn't have the code/etc so there is no problem. STILL, my WORST mistake, at least in my job, though I acted quickly and fixed it, was deleting every file under the SYSTEM account instead of the account I intended. The system was ALMOST rendered UNUSABLE! OH, and I used to work with wood a lot and every now and then hit my thumb instead of the nail. Ever see a thumb with a huge bruise under the nail!?!? And Kurt, I have done things similar but it is even WORSE now! Once, for example, I left a cup of coke, I BELIEVE REGULAR, in my bathroom. OK, you think, BIG DEAL! Well, I had to quickly leave for about a MONTH! LUCKILY, there were SO few bugs around my home that I came back to find the coke right there, as if I hadn't left. The whole month I was worried there might be ants all over it. And the cup COULD have disintegrated, and I could have had a REAL mess. I think the cup WAS close to disintegrating. Steve |

Not long ago I slammed my rig's door shut and went to walk away and something pulled me back - I found my finger slammed in the top of the door. Fortunately it was my old Vitara and between the cheap material they used for the body and the rubber lining, my finger was only slightly bruised. Not a good idea to be that drifty, though, at any rate. The one that yanks me that I do repeatedly though -- send emails with attachments, but I've forgotten to attach the document so I look stupid when I send the second email --btw, here's the attachment I forgot the first time. Somehow I think that it's not a great business advertisement for my competence and efficiency. LOL.

Once, mind you I don't do this any more... my wife and I were out for an evening, which then became night and even well into the wee morning hours before she drug my sorry self home. I was hungry and decided to polish off a box of Life cereal in the cupboard, my wife looks at the bowl while asking me, "what are you eating, you do realize how old that cereal is, don't you?" Looking at the box I find the date, it's now something like 12 months past the sell by date, she sees me pondering things and says... "those aren't crumbs your eating either, their Weevils!"

One of mine--cooking Thanksgiving dinner with oldest son while mom had to work. All the time explaining to him that I consistently had to watch her cooking as she left burners on high too much.... 'Bout that time the smoke alarms shrieked due to the cardboard container I had set on the back burner flaming away! (or course turned to HIGH!). Yep---he was the one that told his mother.

I always keep having some dumb moments - hard to rank some over the other. I had one a few minutes back when I posted this - just because I still don't know what I was trying to achieve with the post (maybe it would make some Warriors smile and provide them a light moment of enjoyment - if it does then it is no longer that dumb): <Amazing> FINALLY, I am the OWNER of the Warrior Forum !!!! And I had one 6 years back, when I had thought that IM does not work after trying to promote a Clickbank product on music and then giving up thinking that IM does not work, without a drop of idea that a site should be marketed to see sales. (And I entered IM back only in 2009 March - right after a 2004 June span of maybe a week or two). There are a ton more - too many to remember. |

I had been online for a few years, really struggling to make a living. I finally got a big time sponsor for my site. I was making really good money, but after about 6 months they changed the terms. It was still a good deal and better than any others I ever had, but it wasn't as good. I was a little angry and decided to vent by forwarding it to a friend saying something like "Look what these f@%^$ing a$$holes did". Except I didn't forward it to my friend...The instant I hit "send" I realized I hit the "reply" button instead. I was so sick to my stomach that I didn't check my email for 3 days, worried about their reply. Luckily nothing happened. Lesson learned. To this day I very rarely cuss, especially in print... |

My latest was today when I decided that wearing long pants and a dark t-shirt was a good idea for working outside in 90 degree heat and bright sun

Good ones, two that come to mind for me are 1) I opened a can of moist cat food and then put it back - unsealed - into the cabinet. 2) I put the remote to the idiot box in the fridge. a few days later, after fruitless searches, i was on my way out to get a new one when I heard my wife screaming in the kitchen. I thought something bad had happened so rushed in - to find her on the floor laughing her rump off - she had found the remote in the fridge.... 3) way too many more to list - sometimes I'm amazed I've lived as long as I have... --Jack |

I always leave my cooler open outside when I grab a drink. All the ice inside melts and I also stub my toe a lot.

I have many dumber than a rock moments - the ones I will never forget are all in the kitchen: Boiling pasta and pouring it into a strainer to drain it. Problem was I was not standing over the sink at the time. Making pesto sauce in the blender and served to guests right out of the blender cup thing. It was bitter for some reason. After guests left I was cleaning up the kitchen and found that I had ground up the rubber ring from the blender into the pesto. In my 'first apartment' days I used steel wool to clean the strainer. Who knew that all the pasta after that had little wire hairs for extra flavor. yech. Mama Mia! Anybody wanna come over for dinner? I didn't think so... p.s. I love these dumber than threads - They are so funny - and it is good to know that we are not dumb alone. p.s.s. oh yes there is one not kitchen related but so sickening I guess I forget to remember on purpose. "Deferred Interest for 18 months " does NOT mean it is interest free. I didn't realize this and because I had not paid off the balance within 18 months, I had to pay the accrued interest from 18 months - So bottom line is in ONE DAY I had $700 in interest added to my balance, putting me over my credit limit which incurred a hefty fine AND my interest rate was increased by roughly 5% on existing balance. |

While I was processing my requirement for my work, the guard asked me what form do I need, I answered "PIN form", the guard laughed at me because it should be TIN not PIN. |

Wow! I have to step away and go sit on the sofa. My mind started spinning faster and faster as all the dumb things I've done were being processed by my memory and I got dizzy and light headed. Maybe I'll try again later! ![]() Terra |
