The Numbers Don't Add Up

I just got one of those phishing emails that are supposed to be Amazon
orders.

But here's the funny part.

The numbers don't add up.

Check this out!

Order #: D24-9454189-1801251
Subtotal of items: $ 51.99
------
Total before tax: $ 33.99
Sales Tax: $ 0.00
------
Total for this Order: $ 97.99

WTF? :confused::confused::confused:

If these guys are going to try to scam us, shouldn't they at least get
the math right?

EPIC FAIL

I know you were, Steve. But I was just joking, originally.

That bill rounding is a good one. I noticed all the related WTF's are
all tech related, of course. The word wrap is great. We don't need
            any stinking word wra

They are all supposed to be REAL! But some aren't EXACTLY tech related, and some BORDER on it! Like the guy that had a problem with servers in australia crashing. HE was elsewhere! He found that they were using the servers to heat meat pies and, supposedly, the fat caused them to crash. That sounds STUPID, etc... but I have seen worse.

HEY, ANOTHER one, from MONTHS ago, spoke of a company that DOWNSIZED! All of the sudden, their servers became unstable. It was because the thermostat was in an office NEXT to the server room. When the people left the office, someone turned the thermostat up to save money. Alas, the SERVER room got too hot and the servers became unstable. Now THAT I HAVE seen before.

Steve - I worked for US West AT -- researcher. I had access to the inner sanctum and it was right by the room with all the technology - 58 degrees, year round. I had to wear a wool suit in the summer. My car broke down once on a 100 degree day and I had to walk about 3 blocks in a wool suit. LMAO. I was NOT a happy camper. I liked the inner sanctum, though.

Well, my first job was as a box boy, and I spent most of the time in the freezer. Later as an admin and consultaant, I spent a LOT of time in COLD server rooms.

Then again, I like cold, and a lot of people are now saying my observations have been right. For whatever reason, women are more likely to complain if the temperature is low.

They're obviously using "spinners" to generate their spam. Each one is "unique" content.

I got one of those last week. I thought maybe my husband ordered something but when I couldn't make sense of the numbers, it dawned on me that it wasn't legit.

Oh man, Laura, I got chills when I saw you're in the UP. I was
stationed at KI Sawyer back in 76-77.

      Inhumanly, insanely cold.

      So... enjoying your short summer?

Inhuman and insane, yeah, that about sums it up. Although I found it much colder in the lower parts of Michigan and Wisconsin because they don't have much snow to insulate. We've got plenty of that.

Last year summer was on August 5 or something like that. This year we're hoping it will fill a whole weekend.

Nah, just kidding, it's been really nice so far. We've been getting 80's for the most part.

I take it you haven't been back since?

I try like hell to make it back every year about the middle
of January. But something always gets in the way.

I miss the waving Jack Pine trees, as far as the eyes can
see. Actually, I had a good time up there. A bunch of us
would go off-road four wheeling and of course partying
way too much. But it was a lot of fun. A lot of good
          memories up there.

I actually went swimming in Copper Harbor - once. Just once. lol
I think I lasted about 5 minutes before I started turning blue.

Water's actually pretty nice right now, about 72 degrees. Only slightly cooler than your average bath.

I never once heard it called the mitt. Where did that
          come from?

Laura... there's no way it was 72 degrees when I was
in it. lol. No way. But I can't remember which month it
was, either. I do remember there was no ice!
