Ever Survive An Animal Attack?

Have you ever been attacked by an animal? Nothing major in my life really. Never been attacked by a wild animal, though I've camped in the wilderness a fair bit in my life.
--I was once charged at by a bull (on a farm in Tierra del Fuego of all places). I just played dead. The stupid creature snorted around me for a few moments then made a "duh" sound and left.
--I was charged at by a pig in an apple orchard. I picked up a few apples and threw them. The pig ate them then charged at me again, but I had time to climb over the fence.
--A few dog attacks, but I've always managed to fend them off (without hurting them) with little more than a bite or two.
--Attacked by various human beasts throughout the course of my life. These are creatures to really watch out for. Some of the more dangerous ones may be camouflaged in suits. Obviously, I'm very lucky in this regard, since these can be highly vicious and psychotic beasts and I'm basically unscathed by that (bullet wound in my neck aside).

    Do dogs count?

My wife and I were chased by a wild dog once. Not really sure how we got
    away from it.

Dog attacks definitely count. Dogs aren't as dangerous as humans, but some are definitely extremely dangerous (keep that in mind of you ever travel to Tibet, land of wild dogs, some rabid).

That pretty much covers it for me also.
Only major difference is my bullet wound is in my left knee, about 6 inches below where I was stabbed.

When I was a kid one of my best friends lived on a farm. They had this
old horse, and they warned me about getting too close to him. Naturally,
I ignored the warning. He charged me and just tried to crush me against
the fence. I did one of these running leaps over the fence. lol

Another time I was attacked by a polar bear. I knocked him out.

Paul, I'm so sorry. All this time I felt so manly because I knocked out

I was on my Aunt and Uncles farm back a few years ago and I walked over to the chicken coop because they had just gotten some baby chicks. As I was walking through the fields, a rooster out of no where charged at me and was like flying and screaming at me! It was pecking at me and it wouldn't stop! I ran so fast and literally soared over the gate! That was the worst attack that ever happened to me!

I got munched by a 150 pound Great Dane once.

It took around 125 stitches to put my face back together.

      Other than that...

The only time the creature was formidable, it was a dog. Let's call it a TIE!

I DID have a praying mantis threaten my bike once!

I encountered only 4 bears. Not being one to pick a fight, ESPECIALLY with a bear, I was cautious. HECK, they all happened before I was 8, and they were probably full grown adults. One was TREED, and many gathered to se the bear, I kept my distance even then.

Oh yeah, I have had human attacks ALSO. It took a lot to get me to fight back though.

I was going to tell you about a recent event but c'est la vie. Probably more trouble than it is worth.

When I was very young I had some cousins that had a farm just outside town. They had some sheep and the alpha male ram was named "Jethro".

Jethro was very protective of his heard and we'd often play a game of chicken with Jethro and see who could come closest. The youngest cousin wasn't as fast as the rest of us Jethro started butting the cousin in the butt just about every step until the cousin could jump over the fence.

Not really an attack and it wasn't me. But it was pretty funny watching him get butted in the butt over and over while he was running and crying. It's the closest story I have to any kind of animal attack...

Aside from getting my arm shredded by my cat now and then, (youthful disrespect for his tail) I've never been attacked by an animal.

I have been attacked by a fly though. It was bizarre. I was at home one fine day and somehow a big fat fly had got inside my apartment. I went to the kitchen and found an old can of RAID and gave him a brief blast. The bugger went NUTS! It zoomed at me and bounced off my chest and then began a series of strafing runs at my head.

This lasted a moment or two then he disappeared. I don't remember finding his corpse. I've never sprayed a fly since. Rolled up magazines only.

Was fixing a computer at a friends house and out of nowhere his pitbull bit at me.
I don't know how he missed, but all he got was a scrape of the flesh on my arm and ripped my shirt. Sadly that was the 3rd strike as he had bitten another friend and a pizza delivery person. They gave him up after he bit me.

I do survive an attack by my african grey parrot almost daily. she likes to bite me but I am assured its a sign of affection!

I had some sweet fruit juice on my hands once and a baby mouse who just got his eyes open bit the end of my pinky....he didn't know he attacked and I survived.

Seriously - Munchie and I ran into a very young bear cub in N. Washington wilderness a few years back. I didn't see mom and it started to follow us. All the sudden here comes Mom. I thought I was toast because I couldn't get distance from the cub...he just kept following us. I had some dog treats in my pocket and threw them back to him. He stopped to check them out and found out they were edible and it gave us time to get away. When mom got to the cub we had plenty of distance (and were near enough to the car to make a mad dash out of there). Bears have incredible noses and I'm thinking that the kid smelled the cookies in the first place and that's why he was following. It was early spring so the animals are always hungry then.

Anyhow - didn't actually get attacked but I thought I was going to and that is very close enough for me, thanks. Grizzlies are people I really like to admire from a distance.

Not just Grizzlies, any bear deserves respect and a wide berth.

One time when I was about 14, I was traveling with my parents and we stopped to take a stroll through a "road side zoo". There was nothing exotic, just deer, raccoons and various B.C. fauna.

In a cage about 40 feet wide was a black bear. He was playing with a "toy". He would grab it with his teeth, shake it violently back and forth like a wet rag, then toss it the length of his cage. He would run (fast) after it and do it again.

      The "toy"? A car tire.

That rambunctious young bear taught me just how powerful bears really are and how humans don't stand a chance. A Griz is like a T-Rex because they are so big, but never make the mistake of underestimating browns and blacks. You will die.

    Yes....just 2 years ago.

What an adrenalin rush! I barely remember how many times I was clawed, bitten, trampled on, and slapped around like a rag doll and all the while trying to run for my life.

That had to be THE MOST insane mouse I've ever encountered.

My left hand was mauled by an Akita...required 30 stitches or so to sew the flesh that was hanging off by the skin. It was a real endurance fight, him biting and violently thrashing his head left to right while I was making dents in his rib cage with my right fist...ending up breaking the bones on the left side of his rib cage before he finally whined and relented. He hobbled and limped away, while I just plopped down on the street, a steady pool of blood steadily growing near my feet.

I just remembered a time that my mother was bitten by the pet Boa I had.
She was feeding him and he thought her hand was a mouse:rolleyes:
She put him in her hand bag and went to the emergency room.
When she told the nurse she was bit by a snake, the nurse didn't believe her, so she pulled the snake out of her bag.
She said she never saw an emergency room empty out so fast

I have had many encounters with nefarious beasts.

I too had an encounter with a polar bear, those things are nasty.

I have also been mounted by a great dane.

... and chased by a cassowary in australia. Also I was once pooped on by a pidgeon.

Most animals consider me as kin as I shower infrequently.

Once I was at the zoo and an emu attacked me and one time when my little sister was about 5 she was looking at a goats butt when it decided to shoot marbles at her.

But yes humans are by far the nastiest critter I ever encountered.

    CLASSIC. I LOVE IT

My story...I was surfing in the ocean a few years ago, got attacked by this 8 ft tiger shark. Knocked me off my board and then went to bite me. I punched the thing in the eyes and it went to swim away. I was able to grab him by the tail and keep punching him before he eventually slipped out of my grip and swam away.

My pet snapping turtle gave me a 2nd belly button when I was about 13 yrs old. I picked him up from the wading pool I was keeping him in. He was inside his shell, and I was thinking that his head was facing the other way. I was wrong. He popped his head out of his shell and grabbed onto my stomach and wouldn't let go. Thankfully I wasn't holding him any lower. It could have been a real disaster.
