After failing to qualify from their group (which included the Ivory Coast, Portugal and Brazil  ), the North Korean soccer team have been subjected to a 6 hour reprimand by 400 students, and the coach has been sent to work on a construction site.

    Wow,

I wonder how we can get our teams here in cleveland sent over there to get scolded. After King James lost the playoffs again, he really deserved it.

Lawrh, it's far more sinister than that. The North Korean "justice" system implements what it calls the "3 generations" rule -- if you commit a serious crime against the government, then not only will you be punished for it, but so will your children and your grandchildren.

Funnily enough, it has quite an effect upon the obedience of the citizenry.

At least they weren't executed. Looks like NK is making some progress.

Yeah, that's one way of looking at it, cpace...

I remember an interview with one of Kim Jong-Il's henchmen who had defected to South Korea. He explained his reasons for leaving NK by saying "I just got bored of torturing people..."

      • The thing that worried me was the Japanese guy who according to the commentary had fought for years to become a citizen of North Korea.

Now there's a guy who needs to go see Dr Phil!

Didn't their top player, Jong Tae-Se, had to apply to become a North Korean international and could have easily played for South Korea.

It is a horrible thing to do!
