Amazon Kindle + small laptop = perfect mobile office setup for online content publisher?

So since I began "content publishing", SEO and monetizing websites via affiliate links and AdSense, I've largely been working from the desktop PC set up in my bedroom.

Honestly though, I think sitting in the same room in the same position for sometimes 14-16 hours per day, so many days per week, and rolling in and out of a bed a mere few feet away in the same room not only takes its toll on your body physically, but on your mind. You lose steam, energy, creativity, (girlfriends! ) and so many other things.

You need to get out; you need a change of atmosphere.

One of my priorities is to do some significant, extended world-travel, soon. In the mean time though, I figured it'd be cool to travel around a little, and change where my office is. Cosy, quiet old pubs (indoors and beer gardens), parks, coffee shops, etcetera, are all candidates for the job. I live in a city but it's fairly quiet during the work-week, when most people are at work (or at the Jobcentre Plus, or on mandatory back-to-work schemes). Means fewer people-distractions than you one may first imagine.

So just over a month ago, I bought myself a kickass new laptop; a Lenovo X201 (small 12.1 inch screen, ~10 hour battery life with WiFi and mobile broadband disabled), with various upgrades. Would normally have cost in the region of £1350 or so, but I got it for about £930 delivered. It's intended for corporate use and so feels more rigid, rugged and "serious" than a regular consumer-grade laptop. Awesome bit of kit.

Anyway, enough of that geek stuff!

I write a lot of articles utilizing physical books and such as research material. I either buy them or borrow them from library; usually the former.

Anyway, I know the new sexy graphite Amazon Kindle with 3G is being released shortly and now seems like a good time to get one. Price is pretty reasonable, too, in my opinion.

I was just thinking that, for my requirements, and given what my setup normally consists of (my laptop with internet access and a pile of books), a Kindle would really streamline my "mobile office". No having to lug lots of heavy books around with me, etc.

They seem like the ideal pair for serious article marketers and bloggers, etc, who do a lot of research offline with the aid of books.

Is anyone else currently working with a similar mobile setup?

I work from on an old fashioned desktop! The Lenovo sound X201 sounds like a cool laptop though.

Are you able to get good, up to date books from your local library? I was thinking a good local library could be a useful resource for good content and is underused by most people.

I just purchase a Kindle DX a few weeks back. It's perfect for me. I like reading while in waiting rooms, etc.

I have converted many of my PDF reports to the Kindle format. ( you don't have to since Kindle reads PDF files, but it works better converted)

I usually read it waiting for my wife while she is doing whatever, etc.

It holds a lot and you can adjust the text size. Not too great for websites but it's possible.

I got it mainly for reading. It's easier than I thought to read from. Overall I'm pleased.

      The few things I would like improved on are;

The background is a light grey. Wish it was a tad lighter or white.

Wish that there was an easy way to print a Kindle formatted file when desired.

      Glad I got it!
