I just came across this interesting report. Read it and decide for yourself. No need to blindly follow it. If you know how surveys and such stuff work then you should most of them are pretty inaccurate. Anyway just read it for fun.

Are Mac users smarter? - CNET News

Selectional bias. It's a marketing study looking for affluent prospects. Those who have already achieved their goals spend more on toys. That Macs have hipster appeal has no bearing on "smarts", nor does education have any bearing upon intelligence.

The article headline is CNET being disingenuous as they are fully aware that their comment section will become a warzone. It's baiting.

BTW, PC = personal computer. Your poll should say "Windows". Unless you like pissing off us Linux users.

I don't know what version of Word your client is using, but the Word file format has been identical for both Windows and Mac platforms since Office 2003.

I'd love to know the image format that can't be opened by a modern Windows machine...

If you're client downloads virtualisation software, such as VirtualBox, and uses it to install a copy of Windows -- then magically, the 'impossible' becomes possible.

I disagree about Safari -- but why does that matter anyway?

There are web standards governing the formatting and appearance of HTML and CSS. The appearance of the final page is governed by how well or poorly the web page and browser implement those standards. The client OS is completely irrelevant.

Yeah, just like those other 'stupid' Mac users, Stephen Fry and Professor Richard Dawkins...

Lawrh is right. A customer once told me that they use mainframes because PCs always crash, etc... I told him he was WRONG! A halfway decent pc will almost NEVER crash! In fact, it will go LONGER than many mainframes without crashing, because mainframes would likely more often be subjected to the environment and/or have PM. NOPE, the reason why "PCs" crash is M/S WINDOWS! HECK, Linux once had a bug that made it crash and, when they finally found it, it was fixed QUICKLY! Of course, it took a LONG time for it to be a problem. The victim had to have their computer running for years.

Besides, Linux is based upon the oldest consumer O/S that is still around, and IBM, HP, SUN, and some others have used it on their main business products.

MOST people that have PCs got them because it was the in thing, or to do their accounting, or play games, etc... Apples, being more expensive, less common, etc... were less subject to such whims. Though that isn't so true now. But you can take a sample of either group and make them appear very smart or very stupid.

Interesting. I don't think it would really make much of a difference. Macs seem like they are more of a pain, but if you are into graphics they can be great. It all depends on the person.

I have been a hardcore Windows user for a long time and I always thought that MACs are for people who do understand anything about computers. After switching to MacOs, I realized that Windows is a piece of crap, inefficient and slow software. When you say MAC and PC, be aware that is MacOS vs Windows. I hate Apple's marketing crap against PCs. I wish UNIX operating systems could be more friendly to regular users so that we would depend neither Windows nor MacOS.

Therefore, for now, since there is no good alternative, MacOS users are smarter :-)

I use openSuse 11.2 The latest, 11.3, was just released. openSUSE.org

It defaults to the KDE desktop, I'm using the Gnome desktop.

I've never tried the cult of Ubuntu. It's very popular.

Dowloading them both, but it looks like Ubantu wins out as the box only has a cd drive and the Suse coms on a dvd iso.

The right tool for the right job. I've made a lot of money off of Linux - but I don't push it as the solutions 100% of the time - because its not. Would I ever recommend Windows to run DNS - hell no. Would I recommend a graphic artist use Linux - probably not since most of her peers will be using a Mac. A 2000$ mac book for my neice who is struggling to pay for school and daycare - nope - I purchased her a $400 Acer running windoz.

You can have your personal prejudices - just don't let them interfere with getting the job done.

    peace,

Mac users are, by far, more "snooty" than PC users. I wouldn't say that one is smarter than the other.

One thing to bear in mind is demographics- Mac users are more likely to be upper middle class, since they cost an arm and a leg to purchase.

I'd reckon that if there was an actual in-depth study of it, Linux users would probably have the highest average IQ, Windows users the lowest.

I'd say no! Though I'm a Mac user (and I love it), I also have Windows on a virtual machine. Both are good, and necessary!
