Ever have one of those days where ya just click on a spam and send them something back? I just did that, lol. Don't know why but I was just in the mood. Ever do that? What was the spam and what was your reply?

Here's the exchange I just made: I have no clue why I sent it - I get a lot of that kind of crap and never pay attention to it. I sure hope I'm not the only one that wastes time so innanely. LOL.

No, haven't done that. Doubtful the email address goes to a real person.

My system is simple - you spam me, I delete you. Quid pro squat

No links in it Kay - just an email address. It was sent out by a bot, but it will be read - it's a lead until he sees what it says. LOL. Usually I don't open spam - just check the box and delete. Just every once in awhile I just get the urge to fling something idiotic right back at them. Sooner or later I should pick up an affiliated product spammers would be interested in and throw the ones that will have the responses actually reviewed a few links of my own. LMAO.

Ha ha......I haven't done that with an email...YET! But you have planted the seed lol.

I have done it offline with physical junk mail from the post office. Just send a pizza/toilet paper coupon to another company (another piece of junk mail) in their prepaid postage envelope. Damn, that feels good once in awhile! :p

Nope, I tend not to confirm that my email addy is live and make it availible to be sold to other spammers.

Now, if I could send them a virus along with my reply...

Speaking of that, KJ, I just wrote a question to Lawrence in the Internet security group at TM - check that situation out. I couldn't believe it when that happened. Love to hear your comments on it.

When I was a sysadmin I replied to a spam once. It was in the mid to late 90's and spam was a pain but hadn't yet become overwhelming. The company Internet was through a 64K ISDN connection and I monitored it closely.

One day a spam from a .ru (Russia) address appeared in my admin mailbox. I was going to add it to the filters I had set up when on impulse I replied. I said:

"The only good spammer is a dead spammer"

A minute later, before adding it to my filters, I got a reply from the same address. He said:

"I will never send you email again"

I was amazed and starting laughing my head off. I didn't believe for a second I would get a response. He must have thought I was in the Russian mob.

Even now, almost 15 years and 100+ million spams later, I still can't believe I got a response. Made my day.

I've done it a few times, but can't really remember what I said. It was when I was younger and I would write some pretty nasty stuff back LOL

I usually don't open them, but my brother actually had a conversation with Nigerian scammers/spammers. And I heard of one person actually scamming money from those guys; they sent him a check.

I stopped doing that after I lost my 5th or 6th account at an early isp - early 1990s. At the time I didn't realize my counter hurt others not just the spammer. And ISPs just got ticked at me for filling up their mail spool with 100,000 copies of /usr/dict that I routinely sent back to spammers. (this was before they started spoofing their return addresses).

I have my fun with pollsters now and the occasional telemarketer. Had a friend who was startled when I told him I answered polls - for about 2 beats and then he said "You lie to them, don't you?" - I replied "Oh hell yea!"

Well, MANY spammers today use someone ELSE'S email address! Many others use non existant email addresses. Still others would NEVER see your email. Some figure they are invulnerable. MOST of the rest JUST DON'T CARE!

      Mission accomplished!

Reminds me of many years ago when I kept getting porn phone calls from some idiot.

I had one of "those" days at work and was just coming into my house with groceries, a baby and a toddler. Rushed to answer the phone and it was the porn "star" - I started laughing hysterically as it was the last straw of the day....and he hung up on me and never called back again.

Ya never know what will work.

LOL Kay. Those were the days. Landlines and directory listed phone numbers. I used to get some raw crank calls, too.

Once the phone rang in the middle of the night and it scared me. I thought for sure it was bad family news so I answered it. The guy said "I've seen you nude". I was so ticked that I got out of bed for that one. I told him "No you have not. If you had, you'd have never called back here". He never called again. *wondering if he was telling the truth after all*

I once emailed back to a message that offered to beat any price I had on viagra.

My reply was something along the lines of:

    Dear Spammer,

I am very tempted by your offer - if you could just answer a couple of questions.

    1. I currently get free prescriptions on the NHS, and my local pharmacy delivers these to me at no cost as I live in warden assisted housing. Please give me details of how your prices beat this.

    2. I am a woman, in a committed relationship with another woman. Please tell me what possible use I would have for viagra.

    Sincerely
