I just learn through his Facebook fan page that Richie lost his year long battle with cancer today.
Richie was one of the founding members of Little Feat who happen to be my favorite band for the last 35 years.
I've never shed a tear when someone dies, but they are flowing at the moment.
He has been an inspiration to me and a drummer who's style I proudly admit to copying.

I am so sorry to hear that Thom.

Remember to thank God that he is now FREE!

You will always have him with you in spirit (and all his recordings, etc) will take you there.

Sad to hear that, but like Patrician said, he is free of the illness finally.
And I'm with you Thom, I love Little Feat.
    RIP Richie.

      Just an FYI.

For whatever reason, I never got into them. Certainly heard of them as they
were a pretty popular cult band back in the early 70s I think it was.

Around my neck of the woods, they weren't top 40 so nobody played them
on the AM top 40 stations and all the FM stations around my area didn't
      play them either.

I honestly have no idea why. I guess they weren't mainstream enough.

How about you guys who did know their music well post some of your
favorite songs so that I can get some much needed exposure to these
      guys.

Around Craig Fuller who later left to return to my neck of the woods, they weren't top 40 so nobody played them
on the AM top 40 stations and all the FM stations around my area didn't
        play them either.

Feat where never a mainstream band by any stretch.
What they are collectively called by many is "musicians, musicians".
They truly love making music and truly love playing together.
You may have heard of some of the members.
Billy Payne, Sam Clayton, Ken Grady, Paul Barrere, Lowell George (died 1979), and of course Richie Hayward. Fred Tackett joined the band in 1988 when the band reformed along with Craig Fuller who left after a couple of years.
When you read who each has played with over the years, you don't get a list a page or two long, but a book. And that's for each member.
Here's a link to their youtube page YouTube - LittleFeatArchive's Channel

This is probably my favorite Feat song, I remember teaching my youngest Christine the cow bell part when she was 4 years old. This is an older version with Lowell George.

Wow. I remember them in concert. They weren't my favorite to just randomly listen to - a little mellow for me. When in the mood though, they were incredible. What is it about creativity that seems to burn people out so fast?

    RIP Richie.
