I don't know if you heard about it but.... One car in a race today had a NASTY crash,
killed 8 and injured I guess 12 people.

Supposedly, they DO have rules to prevent this, but the rules are ridiculous. If followed, people would need binoculars and, perhaps, stools, to see the cars. I don't think it is surprising that people don't follow the rules. And people have suggested putting up fencing which is technically ILLEGAL since it is a public area and easements exist,

But, frankly, some are tallking about adding laws AGAINST this and, if they did that, it would have to apply to many other races that already exist.

How do YOU guys feel about this?

Off road races can be dangerous.
I think the main problem here may have been driver error.
From what I understand about it, he went over a knoll and became airborne.
Where the driver error comes in is when he landed he had the brakes applied.
That's the worst thing you can do when you become airborne in a two or four wheel vehicle.

I think it depends where ya are, Thom. If there's nothing under you for a thousand feet when ya go airborne, I don't think the brakes really matter.

We don't have enough laws. So I'm all for it.

How smart is it to decide the best place to watch the start of a race that is on dirt/sand is a few feet from where the cars will be roaring past?

Was just reading about this - the driver name was Brett Sloppy....wow.

      Another driver said
"The problem is the crowd was just too close. I don't think the [racer] did anything stupid. He just hit it way too hard."

I love all types of racing but people need to keep this in the back of their minds----- the drivers are very talented *but* they can and will make mistakes. The cars/trucks are well engineered *but* they can and will break.

I for one wouldn't be standing that close to the path (especially with a child). In fact, I'd prefer to be on a hill or some type of berm.

As far as new laws go, we don't need any. If need be push the spectators back.
