this may be a stupid question but i want to know how
to thank a user on their post or thread .

    Hi Scott, If you look at the bottom right hand corner of the post, you will see 4 buttons "QUOTE" "MULTIQUOTE" "QUICK REPLY" & "THANKS". Just click on the thanks!

      Pretty sure you need a certain number of posts before you get a thanks button. Don't know how many though, sorry.
