Congratulations
and Also Condolences!

I can't help but be happy for all of you who are happy about the new President of the United States, and at the same time I am not happy with those that aren't.

It might still be a stretch to say that the state of things in this country and the world, could not get much worse, than they have been lately, and let's hope this new development will help to heal this nation and our people and that the rest of the world will stop hating us as much as they seem to right now.

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND THE WORLD!

I am also glad that all the animosity can be over here in the OT - you gotta admit it got pretty hairy and I understood so well why politics had been banned in the past.

There is going to be 'the cat that ate the canary' vs. 'eating crow' around here now. LOL!

I HOPE WE CAN ALL GET ALONG and at the same time that we are not expected to all think exactly alike now (just yet?) - there are still those that exercise the right to think differently.

I know I am going to try to be kinder to those that think differently than I do.

Good going Pat. I appreciate that.

I think people will be surprised at how Obama trys to work with the Republicans.

      Tim...

I really believe Obama is more conservative than most people think, despite his voting record. If people are truly honest, I'll predict in a few years that the far left will be more dissappointed than will the middle.

I'd be more worried about Pelosi than Obama, if I were a conservative. To me, this is the dynamic that we need to keep an eye on. Can Obama "control" Pelosi, and if so, how will she react?

I hope Pelosi can show some restraint and not feel Obama's election is her ticket to go wild, and she'll work with the other side with respect.

        I agree with Kurt.

Something might have to be done with Pelosi.

I agree and you might know she is from Left-Coast, USA - she is out of control and her success has gone straight to her head - she can only tilt it to the left, there is no mid-range motion with her. Whats more we have to have Feinstein.

If it was up to these two we would all speak Spanish, be here illegally and given asylum in the 'sister city' (SF), be in a gay marriage and have children with two mommies and two daddies, if they aren't aborted first. We would give our paychecks directly over to foreign interests. So much for abominations.

Oh well there goes my vow to be nice to those that "think" differently. Well I mean only if they are Warriors. LOL.

    Moving to Europe, ciao.

You got to be kidding me. Apathy? The highest voter turnout since 1968 perhaps. The most interest in an election that I can remember. Apathy?

As an American -- it seems that we always look for the President to solve our problems -- when in reality he does not have the power to solve anything. This power according to our Constitution has been given to the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Presidential powers are limited to appointments of judges -- ambassadors and such. And of course the power to veto.
That's it huh? You have a weird understanding of our government. A leader makes a difference. The President has huge powers. It's not as simple as you make it seem. Not as cut and dry. Bush made a huge difference and so will Obama.

Um, Pat, Europe is even far more left than San Francisco LOL. If you want to get away from from the extreme far left, Europe is not the place to go. Remember my plan for Costa Rica on the beeyoootiful beach?

All I can say is that it is what it is. Obama is our president and will be for the next four years. Rather than bicker over who should have won or who would be better, we need to accept that he IS our leader and our president-elect.
I agree as an American that it is unusuall that the world rejoyced the way that it did because Obama was elected. However maybe it isnt a bad thing.
Leaders from other countries have already made statements of their new hope and faith in the US, as well as suggestions that they will sit down with Obama and work towards attaining world peace. And isnt that what we all want to see anyway?

"At a time when we have to confront immense challenges together, your election raises great hopes in France, in Europe and in the rest of the world," French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in a congratulations letter to Obama.

Now I want to clarify, I am not in any way saying I think Obama will bring world peace! But if world leaders are more willing to work with him to create peace shouldnt that be considered a good thing?

I will just continue to hope and pray that Obama thinks about US as Americans the way he campaigned he would!

Yes, it is a good thing the world is happy about the election. They see hope for the future and didn't want someone who supported Bush to win IMO.
