Hi,

I have just checked my ranking on google for a certain phrase, and I am on the first page at number 2 and number 3, which I would normally be ecstatic about.

The problem I have is that the number 2 position is showing my download page for the product I am promoting, which means that anybody who opens that page can get my product for free.

Please can someone advise how a download page gets ranked, but more importantly, how i get the page down or unlisted.

A speedy reply would really be appreciated

Thanks

      That's very nice you have resolved the problem but everyone who comes here to read and find out what the problem is, maybe even taking time out to help if they can, gets told, thanks but no thanks.

      Nobody gets to find out how the problem was solved and that seems like a waste of time reading about it. No closure. WE Need Closure, please!!!

        um sorry? lol.

        I have never been particularly comfortable in forums so I have a tendency to PM people instead.

        he needed to add the noindex command into the head for the page and ask Google to remove the page from their index

          Think it is me who should be apologising

          "thriftgirl62" is right, I should of explained how the problem was resolved so other people could learn from it.

          Think I will have to start doing more posting and learn the ropes a bit more

    set the robots.txt file to not index the page. Also in your Google Webmaster Tools you can set up your robots. txt file and your sitemap.xml file. You do have those installed right?

    For prahna1

    I have been trying to quote you,but it keeps saying my reply is too short :rolleyes:

    No, I didn't have anything at all set up with Google Webmaster Tools, and "phsims" explained all about the robot.txt file and the no index.

    I am in the middle of setting up Google Webmaster Tools as I write this

    I really appreciate yours and everyone else's input though

    Thank you

    For those of you trying to figure this out, here is how it is done.

    <head>

    <title>Your Page Title</title>

    <meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow">

    </head>

    That's all there is to it!

    Obviously it's not guaranteed as some robots ignore the instructions.
    There are however lots of other ways to use too.

    1. Make sure you never, ever name your download page either download.html or thankyou.html

    2. Put your download page into a folder on your hosting away from the main public_html folder. Name this folder something hard to guess like 123paid4dlzp

    3. Use a download protection script that hides the filename of the download.

    Hope that helps.
