How Often Do You Shave Your Facial Hair Completely Smooth?

Hey Warriors,

I'm happy I'm back to the forum after about one month of suffering a ban caused by an ass-hole, Precious Ngwu, whose IP matches mine. Honestly, I didn't find it funny because I really missed a lot of useful information I normally get from the War Room.

Back to the title, I shave my facial hair completely smooth everyday. I really enjoy doing it. What is your take on this?

I've had issues with sharp objects against my face and neck my whole life.
I started growing facial hair at 16 and at 57 can count on one hand the number of times I have completely shaved my face. Currently I have a goatee I guess you would call it, just shaving my cheeks (quite Dave).
I think it all came about from watching my father shave many years ago.
In those days you had either a double edged razor or a straight blade.
He would walk out of the bathroom with so many pieces of tissue on his face, he looked like a skinny Santa Claus.

Discharged from the army on 07/21/1969-----shaved my face some time around 1984 just to see how it felt. DID NOT LIKE IT.

When I die my wife has instructions to NOT have me shaved prior to cremation. Only can hope that she doesn't have desire to see what I look like with naked face---I think I can trust her!

Being ex-military, I used to do the same. In fact, I shaved with a straight razor, which I found both faster and more efficient... once you get used to it, and aren't afraid of cutting your own throat anymore, you can go through the whole routine and be finished before the average "modern" shaver is done with the first cheek.

It's always fun watching the other guy smirk while he puffs cream into his hand instead of mixing powder in a cup, and then watching the expression on his face change when you go whisk and the entire left side of your face is DONE.

And it amazes me that as we designed more and more "safety" into the razor, it somehow became more and more common for people to cut themselves shaving. I guess when cutting yourself shaving could be fatal, you get a lot more serious about not doing it.

Today, I just let it grow. I trim it when it gets too wild, but I pretty much let the hair grow where it wants to grow - which gives me the typical Irish pattern of patchy, unruly sideburns and mostly-bare cheeks on either side of a goatee and moustache.

I try to do it like baby smooth monday morrning, and wednesday night. That requires several passes, etc... My hair is too thick, and blades are TOO cheap! They can cause nicks if they get too dull, which they can get pretty quickly. I WOULD use electric razors, but THEY aren't close enough. On my last job, I actually went a couple years with a full beard. Of course, have you EVER tried to shave yourself with a full beard? You are better off starting with scissors, but STILL it is way too long to shave efficiently.

    SO, why are you asking?

    cdarklock,

I would LOVE to use a straight razor, but they CAN be more dangerous if you slip, etc.. "safety razors" are built CHEAPER! If you made a straight edge so cheap, it would fall apart, etc... AND, you probably WOULD slit your throat. BUT, "safety razors" have a LOT more support, so they can build them cheaper, and get away with it. If your hair is thick, it can dull and start cuting or even pulling hairs out.

I guess they don't trust us either, or they wanted to make blades REAL cheap(with less metal). When I was a kid, "safety razors" were a shell that opened up in the center. You would insert a blade(JUST the sharpened piece of metal), close the shell, and both sides were a single blade. STILL not as good as a straight edge, but probably BETTER than todays razors. But the actual BLADE could be more dangerous.

I tend to shave when the spirit moves me. I have always wanted to use
the old-fashioned straight razor. But too lazy to look for the razor strap,
    or strop?, and quality razor.

Where's Kurt? I'd like to hear how often he shaves his legs. Just curious...

The Bible tells us to grow a beard. It separates us from women. Women are supposed to have smooth faces not you! But in our corrupt society they want you having a smooth face like a woman.

It's the mark of a man to have a beard. It is manly and makes you look older and wiser.

well I DO have a mustache. AND, oddly, only IT is getting some gray hair. Besides, my beard is really all I shave. my arms, legs, and chest, certainly don't look like a womans.

No offense ladies, I LOVE the look of clean legs, arms, etc..., but on WOMEN!

My father was the same. In fact he shaved twice a day to keep it clean.
He hated that 5 o'clock shadow.

I like to do both. Sometimes months at a time.

Then look and say today I'll shave. My dad hates
it. I grew up in the 60's and had beard and long
        hair. Loved it.

In a previous life I had a construction company.
I pulled up in from of a house about three days after
shaving and cutting my hair down to an inch long.

I met the lady at the front door, after talking about
35 minutes, she said if I had driven up to her house
and had long hair, she would have thrown we off
        her property.

I worked for her an friends for over two years, about
        156,000 dollars.

I learned right then, if I wanted to work with people who
had money, I had to conform to their standards.

My facial hair grows real fast. Its thick like wire so I can have a beard in 4-5 days.

When I don't shave I feel like **** and cant think clearly.

For me having a smooth shave is like having clean bedsheets. Makes me feel fresh & clean & I am convinced there is some hormone thing going on there.

Growing a beard feels itchy and ****ty. I don't like it.

Well, testosterone certainly DOES control hair growth. Frankly, from what I have seen, looking on the internet, my beard growth is above average, but I certainly wouldn't say I would grow what I would call a beard in a week. MAYBE a month. Then again, different people have different ideas of beards. I forget how long it took to grow the one I DID grow, but IT was quite large. It's a pity I had to surrender my drivers license when I got a new one. 8-( It was perhaps the only picture I had of me with a beard. 8-(

BTW MINE is thick like wire also. I think my beard and mustache may even be thicker than the hair on my head used to be, and IT was THICK! Of course, now the hair on my head is THIN! 8-(

        Same here Steve.
Every hair I have left on my head is still dark brown.
My facial hair is more a salt and pepper thing, heavy on the salt.

Why, oh why, did I read this whole thread? I must be procrastinating to avoid doing something this morning.

Oh right - cutting grass is on the agenda...not my favorite thing to do.
