The season starts tonight with a rematch of the last NFC Championship game - the Minnesota Vikings will visit the Super Bowl Champs New Orleans Saints. Tonight's Prediction: I predict Brent Farve will be knocked out of the game by the middle of the 3rd quarter and the Saints will win by at least 10 points. On a personal note... I'm a little worried about my Colts falling off the table and not winning at least 11 games this year. For my Colts I predict a tough year but we'll still make the playoffs. My Super Bowl prediction... Colts Vs. Saints rematch with my Colts avenging last years' defeat. NFL News... New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was involved in a two-car accident on the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Gloucester Street in Boston on Thursday morning, according to Boston's WEEI AM, citing sources with knowledge of the situation. The two cars involved -- an Audi with New Jersey plates and a Ford minvan -- were thought to be involved. Brady was "shaken," but it is believed his did not go to the hospital, according to the report. The quarterback walked away from the scene and was reportedly en route work at Gillette Stadium. The driver of the mini-van had to be taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, according to WEEI. It was believed that the jaws of life were used in the accident and that a pole was down at the scene, according to the report. How important is Week 1? Since 1978, when the NFL went to the 16-game schedule, teams that are victorious on Kickoff Weekend are more than twice as likely to reach the playoffs than losers of the opening game. Enjoy the season! TL |

I'll go with the Saints tonight, but think the Vikes (especially AP) are really fired up. It seems to be a great game.... I'm not sure about my Broncos this year, not feeling optimistic for the first time in a very long time. Too many holes on the O and D lines. Superbowl pick: Colts over the Dallas Cowpies in Dallas. |

Saints win 14-9! Saints score on opening drive but muster only 1 TD the rest of the game. Is the Saints defense really that good to hold the Vikes to 1 TD? Fell asleep in the middle of the 3rd quarter. The pre-game show was pretty good with Dave Mathews. TL Ps. The Jets pay Derrel Revis 46 mill over 4 years with 30 mill guaranteed. He is a shut down corner as he held the opposing teams top receiver to an average of only 30 yards per game. |

NFL News... Tom Brady gets paid! 18 mill per year and 49 mill guaranteed! Highest paid player in NFL history. Peyton Manning is licking his chops in anticipation of his upcoming deal. Pets Carrol scatters out of USC and takes over Seahawks. I hope the fans are going to be patient - for Pete's sake. Colts travel to Houston in a test of the old steadies vs. the up & comers. Houston was 9-7 last year but still missed the playoff and have improved every year under Gary Kubriack. Matt Leinart looks forward to a fresh start in Houston as the newest member of the Texans backing up a surprising Matt Schaub. My Colts lost in last years' Super Bowl and must keep the young bucks at bay today. My prediction: Colts 28 Texans 24 Sunday night game... Cowboys visit FedX Field and the Mcnab lead Skins. Skin owner finally gets real football people to run his organization. My Prediction: Skins 24 Boys 20 Enjoy opening weekend! TL |

| In many ways I did. I knew that they have gotten better but 250+ yards on the ground is a little much. I predicted your team would score 24 points but it was the Colts instead. Matt Schaub threw the ball only 17 times. My worst fears may be coming true. Is this the year the Colts fall off the table? Now we have a sort of must win situation when the Giants come to Indy next week in the Manning Bowl. Next time we play Houston in Indy and it will be a different story. TL Ps. Is this a catch??? |

| Senior Warrior Member War Room Member | Quote: A player is in possession when he is in firm grip and control of the ball inbounds. To gain possession of a loose ball that has been caught, intercepted or recovered, a player must have complete control of the ball and have both feet completely on the ground inbounds or any other part of his body, other than his hands, on the ground inbounds. If the player loses the ball while simultaneously touching both feet or any other part of his body to the ground or if there is any doubt that the acts were simultaneous, there is no possession. This rule applies to the field of play and in the end zone. A player who goes to the ground in the process of attempting to secure possession of a loose ball [with or without contact by a defender] must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, there is no possession. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, it is a catch, interception or recovery. I don't know about anyone else, but he looked like he had firm possession - albeit in one hand - all the way to the ground. I guess it was a judgment call. TL - I wouldn't rush to judgment on your Colts yet after one game. Last year I was seeing "playoffs" when the Giants opened the season at 5 - 0... Peyton is an incredible QB and will dig them out of a hole or two this year. | |

TL - I think Foster surprised even us 'believers' ... and I really thought the colts looks unusually sloppy for them so I doubt that will last long. and...YES that was a catch....I think he was in full control of catch, had both feet land and intentionally released the ball as he was getting back up. The rule needs to be tweaked on that one.......makes no 'common sense' if guys can go flying on their way out of bounds and 'breaking the plane' is enuff to count but this wasn't? HuH?~? On the catch/non catch... if the receiver would have held on to the ball ( a few seconds ) instead of trying to get up with the ball so quickly - it would have been ruled a catch. Pass plays must be clean and crystal clear - with no ambiguities. Even though it looked ( to some people ) like the receiver had control of the ball - he can't lose control of it when he hits the ground. Pass plays must be smooth - hold on to the ball on pass plays. The rules are different for pass plays and run plays. BTW... Looks like your Jets are selling a lot of wolf tickets this year. We'll see if they can back it up. And... next week my Colts meet your Giants. All The Best!! TL

Interestingly, for the first time in a very long time, they are getting more press than the Giants in our local rags... good for them! I hope to see good things from them this year. Giants vs. Colts. As soon as runners break the plane it's a TD but a receiver can... catch the ball while in the air, fly around the endzone a few times but when they land... ... they better have full, ( for a few seconds ) clear control of the ball or it's not a TD. Breaking the plane rules are different for runners and pass catchers. A receiver could catch the ball in the air at the 50 yard line and fly all the way into the end zone... ...but he better maintain clear - prolonged possession of that football when he comes down or it's not a catch. The receiver's premature celebration is what did him in. As the college basketball coach Al Mcguire used to say... "there's too much celebrating in football". All The Best!! TL

![]() But we fired Mike Shahanan so we could hire Doogie McLovin as our coach. And it was a catch. If the rule said it wasn't, they need to change that rule. The Jets are highly over-rated, IMO. Sanchez hasn't looked good all preseason.

A few thoughts on Sunday's games... I thought the Eagles looked way better with Vick behind center. I think Andy Reid should use Kolb's concussion as an excuse to play Vick next week. Vick is ready to prove to the world he can still play football, so why not turn him loose! The Texans looked great, and so did the Titans. This doesn't bode well for the Colts who can't stop the run. I could see Chris Johnson running all over this team. The Cowboys lost a game they should have won. They don't look a team ready to play a home Super Bowl game this year. That's all for now... |

The chargers are looking like they miss LT already. Phillip Rivers is not bad by any standard, but I'm not sure he can completely carry a team just yet. P.s. Looking like a 4-12 year for my local Tampa team. All home games are blacked out also due to lack of ticket sales too. |

This week my Colts will engage the NY Giants in Indianapolis in front of a national TV audience on the Sunday night game via NBC. This is the 2nd meeting between the Manning brothers with The Colts winning the first matching back in 2006 with a score of 26-21. Both were number 1 draft picks. The storied franchises have meet 14 times during the regular season. The Colts beat the Frank Gifford lead Giants in the 1958 NFL Title Game in overtime in the game that many pro football lovers consider the greatest game ever played and... ... a game that supposedly launched pro football into the modern TV age - that eventually propelled pro football to surpass Major League baseball as the national pastime. The Colts defeated the G-Men again for the 1959 NFL championship. NFL’S BEST REGULAR SEASON RECORD since 1999... 128-49 COLTS Tony Dungy/Jim Caldwell Background on 2nd year Colts coach Jim Caldwell... Caldwell joined the Colts after serving as quarterbacks coach with Tampa Bay in 2001. Caldwell has more than 20 years of collegiate coaching experience. He spent 1993-2000 as head coach at Wake Forest. He served as an assistant coach at Southern Illinois (1978-80), Northwestern (1981), Colorado (1982-84), Louisville (1985) and Penn State (1986-92). Caldwell has coached in six bowl games and won a national championship with Penn State in 1986. In addition to serving on Joe Paterno’s title staff, Caldwell tutored under three other coaches who won collegiate crowns (Rey Dempsey, Southern Illinois; Bill McCartney, Colorado; Howard Schnellenberger, Louisville). Caldwell was a four-year starter at defensive back at Iowa ( much like Tony Dungy - hence the connection )... ...and worked as a graduate assistant for Iowa in 1977. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Iowa. Caldwell was born on January 16, 1955 in Beloit, Wis. Sunday's Night's Game: We must find a way to win or start the season at 0-2. I'm predicting a Colts victory at home by a score of 31-24. ( just like last week ) Eli has won 9 consecutive September games so he's due for a loss. Other games of note: Baltimore @ Cinn should be interesting as the Bengals don't want to start the season at 0-2. My Pick = Cinncy. Pittsburgh visits the red hot Tennessee Titans and teams are undefeated. My Pick = Tenn. Houston comes to Washington in a battle of unbeatens. My Pick: Wash. New England visits the very talkative NY Jets. My Pick: The Pats Jets highly paid cornerback, Derrill Revis has called Randy Moss a slouch and shut him down in last year's meetings. Enjoy your football! TL |

![]() Having said that - I (like you) don't usually like to pick against my team. But in this case, I think the Colts will get the win. Peyton has the edge with his experience. And also, after giving up, what, close to 1000 yards last week (har), the Colts will probably shut down the G-Men's running game. Eli has gotten better over the past couple of years, but if he's forced into a passing contest with his brother, Peyton will come out victorious. But I think both teams will surprise everyone with a lower scoring game. I'll say 17 - 14 Colts.

I'll never pick against the Colts because there's always a very reasonable chance that they will win each game they play. But at the same time, I'd also bet against them having a perfect season. Well Mike, I do believe in percentages playing a part in many equations. After 8 straight victories in the month of September, it's time for a Giant loss and combined with this opponent makes this the perfect weekend for Eli and the Giants to somehow not do enough to help their team win. Whether Eli will be the primary cause of the Giants demise or not,... ... ( as many games are decided by the QB play ) ... ... we'll just have to wait and see. The Colts need this game a whole lot more than the Giants and we're playing at home. The winner will have over 20 points and it will be the Colts. But time will tell how our predictions stand the test of reality. Your team vs. my team. Guess where I'll be on Sunday Night between 8pm and 11:30pm?? Sorry, I can't wish you good luck in this situation. Ps. I always said that the Giants' gray pants are not gray - they are dirty and soiled - so they look gray. (LOL) PPS: I loved it when the Giants beat the Pats in the Super Bowl - I was a honorary Giant that night. That mad scramble and completed pass by Eli to David Tyre was my most hair-raising play in Super Bowl history. Here it is again!

I'll never get tired of seeing that play ![]() I don't like routing against the Giants. And I also think they have a reasonable shot in ANY game (that Super Bowl proved that to me). But I am a realist. Last year I predicted an 8 - 8 season for the Giants. This year MAYBE 9 - 6. Over the years watching the Giants I know they tend to play better against good teams and play poorly against the teams they "should" beat. But for the Giants to win against the Colts, they will ALL need their A-game and play virtually mistake free football. Their pass coverage is nothing special either, which ALWAYS makes me worry when playing good passing teams/QB's. Not impossible. But this early in the season, not likely. But anyway - Go Giants!!!! |

| ![]() 2 and 0 Josh Freeman is looking like he's figured it out. Add to that 7 quality wide receivers and a decent running back or two. The defense is playing a slight variation of the Tampa 2 plus our offensive line has gelled. Looks like it could be a way better year then expected. |

It was a spinechiller. When the Skins were up by 17 points the wife declared the game over but I warned her that there was just too much time involved. Congrats Andre. Learning to win close games is a very important part of the championship process. It's often the diff between going 9-7 or 12-4. Since you folks are now 2 & 0... Now my Colts getting a win tonight is even more important than ever. The game starts in about 15 minutes.

Colts "stump" Giants in Manning Bowl 38-14 - sending a message to the rest of the NFL (especially Houston) that we're not dead just yet. November 1st in when we meet those upstarts Texans again - after a bye week. We should be 5-1 at the time of our next meeting. Last Week's Predictions: Moss burns Revis to a crisp with one-handed touchdown catch. but... - Jets send a message also and thrash the Pats 28-14. ( I was wrong! ) - Pittsburgh is somehow 2-0 without Big Ben as they befuddle Vince Young and the Titians. CJ held to 40 yards rushing & VY pull in 2nd half. ( I was wrong! ) Houston gets past Washington 30-27 in overtime. ( I was wrong! ) Cinn squeaks past Baltimore 15-10. Colts blow-out Giants 38-14. I was wrong on 3 of 5 picks this weekend. ( 60 percent ) Surprises.... - Bears undefeated. - Vikes winless. - Houston undefeated. - Miami undefeated. ( another perfect season in progress? ) - The Boys are 0-2 - The Bucs are undefeated. It's early in the season. Next week... Colts at Kurt's Broncos. |

Congrats to the Colts - well deserved spanking they gave the G-Men. Oddly, I must have known this would happen. I completely forgot about the game until I went to bed last night around 11. I turned on the game and I think it was 38-7 at that point. I shook my head then rolled over and went to sleep. Well, that's the OTHER side of being a long-time Giants fan. Sometimes they send the "look-alike" team in. They LOOK like the Giants, but they play like high schoolers LOL Anyway, Manning Bowl II is in the books. Peyton 2, Eli 0. The next meeting I believe is in 2012? Mike Quote:
