I had a low tire the other day and went to get air in it.

75 cents for 3 minutes of air.

Next they'll be charging me for "The Air That I Breathe"

That's cheap, Steve. It cost me $1 today to use an air machine!

Yeah, I remember when WATER was free, AIR was free, and they would check your fluids, acid level, connections, and air, for FREE! It is sad.

Air and even water (for vehicles) is still free in my area. Maybe I'll put up a picture later.

I think stations started charging for air maybe 15 yrs ago. Not sure.

But there's an Exxon close by that still doesn't charge for air. Only one
    I know of.

    • In California, you just tell the attendant, and they turn the machine on. no cost.
In Vegas, and some other tourist areas, they charge for "oxygen bar use".
And when is the last time you drank tap water, and when did you last pay 2$ for a bottle of water?

NOT TRUE! In several places in california, and likely the majority, it DOES cost money! I lived there most of my life. And kenthompson, I am pretty sure it started THERE in the 80s.

BTW I have ALSO been to indiana and Mass, and THEY also generally charge. I couldn't really tell you about the other places because I didn't drive there, etc...
