Yeah, they really know how to look after their employees. I was invited to their Seattle offices last year and it was really cool too. They have a wall that has search terms scrolling down consistently showing what people are searching for around the country at that very time. It was pretty neat.

There was also a room full of erector sets and all sorts of crazy stuff if I remember correctly.

Back in the early-mid 90's, before Google was born, some of the buildings in their campus used to belong to a pharmaceutical company named Syntex. I used to fly out twice a year to service their stuff.

I can tell you one thing - it didn't look like THAT!

I think ultimately it's in Google's own interest to create such an
environment. Otherwise, it's lavish and a tad wasteful, in my opinion.

They naturally want their talent to remain there with them. So creating
that kind of work environment will help; all other things being relatively
equal. I'm sure the most important employees are well-paid, and the
benefits are probably above average.

I'm not such a fan of Google, though, and I wouldn't work for them no
matter what they offered to pay me.

  My mild disdain for them is based on a lot of things. I
  have to admit I'll never know the complete truth about
  things I've read about them. Not that I'm an avid G news
  reader. And I don't necessarily believe everything I read.
  
  So I guess it's my impression about some things. On other
  matters, it's less impression and more of seeing things
  they do.
  
  All in all, I'm not a fan.

  Surelly those swing chairs are designed to relax with your feet up, as opposed to working whilst sitting on it, and struggle to maintain your balance.

Those hanging chairs are called 'skychairs'. SKY Chairs: Home of the original hanging chair. . I used to have one; they really are fantastically comfortable!
