Do you think that Reggie Should have Given up the Heisman?

I'm a little torn over this. I think that he should've kept it because there were bigger forces at work than him that have gone unpunished. I feel that he's carrying too much of the load.

Without going back over the past events, I think Bush has done the best he could from this point on and he did the right thing giving it back and is trying to make it better.

I'm saying this thinking the committee was going to take it away anyway.

I do think the difference between Bush, OJ and Johnny Rogers (and Billy Cannon RIP) who all spent time in prison is that Bush made his mistake while he was playing. The others' problems came later.

I believe Reggie Bush is a good person that made a bad mistake and better late than never, he's owning up to that mistake now.

And then...I still think it's a joke college football and bball players at the big schools don't get paid. They should get some spending money, a couple of plane tickets and a phone calling card.

During the season, I think something like $50 a week x your GPA makes sense. Reward them for the profit they generate and motivate them to get a better education. Straight A's will get them $200 a week. And they have to be able to figure it out themselves correctly to be eligible.

I also think that the Trust was leaning towards stripping the Heisman anyway and that's what made Bush voluntarily give it up.

I like your suggestion on the $50 x GPA average or something of that nature. Even $100 would be cool. But it is a joke that all of madness comes down on Bush for the most part but the coaches and everyone involved get away scott free.

I also agree that the coaches (or who ever made the offers) should take more heat on this. Reggie's accomplishments still stand whether or not he took any offers. It's not like he took steroids or something to cheat his way into those accomplishments. He still earned that trophy.

      Hey Gary and All,

I have a couple of problems with the whole thing...Bush did break the rules and he agreed to abide by those rules.

But he just got greedy and took a gift, he didn't steal anything or hurt any body and it didn't affect his play on the field.

On the other hand, I don't think those rules are fair and the NCAA is a bunch of BS they way they handle kids.

How come the 19 year old kids that signed on at USC can't play in a bowl game because Reggie Bush did something 5 years ago? How does that make sense?

Why can Lane Kiffin sign a contract at Tenn, then break it and go to USC, while making millions of dollars?

And if Lane Kiffin can change his mind, how come the kids have to wait out a year if they change schools? Even if the coach that recruits them leaves for any reason, the kid is stuck in his "contract".

And the kids don't even get paid.

Why do we expect 18 year olds not to change their minds? What if they get in a bad situation, or even if a better situation becomes available...Why can't the kids do what's best for them, everyone else connected to the NCAA looks after their own self interests?

Why can't they be given phone cards and plane tickets by boosters so they can stay in touch with friends and family back home while they are away at school earning that school MILLIONS of dollars directly from their efforts?

Why can't they be given a little bit of the money they generate for movies and pizza? Playing a big-time sport is like having a full time job. You have practice, you travel to games, you miss classes, all to make the school money.

If a kid in college thinks his life will be improved by changing schools for ANY reason, who are we to penalize them for doing it?

Why can't a kid have an agent to represent them for ANY reason and talk to them about their prospects for life in the future?

Who represents the kids/student/athletes? The ones we're supposed to take care of are the only one's we're not.

That is a good question. Reggie did wrong, no doubt. I don't believe he should give up the Heisman because he won it for being the best player in college football that year, not for being a Saint, pardon the pun.

Having said that, there should be some repercussions for what he did. A huge fine, community service, having to put up with the Kardashions, etc....

LOL - I think that Reggie found out the hard way, that not all beauty is skin deep. I turned on keeping up with the kardashians the other day, and could only keep it on for a few minutes. It was like fingernails on a chalkboard. They are all beautiful, but the nag-to-tag ratio makes them all undesirable for me - Not to mention I'm married anyway

But yes, I agree w/ Kurt. The rules should be changed. I see no benefit at all in keeping these kids from the money they are earning. In years past it could be argued that it was to keep the recruiting methods from getting out of hand. But it has apparently gotten out of control any way. So let the kids have their money.

The sad part is that many of these kids will get hurt, or not make the NFL, but the money they could have made in college would have been a great start for them.
