I never had a drinking problem, and never deliberately quit drinking, but I haven't actually had an alcoholic beverage since my wife's pregnancy and the birth of our baby who is five-months-old now. That is over a year without drinking. However, I make up for it by consuming lots and lots of coffee.

Well in honor of "Talk Like a Pirate Day," perhaps you should sail with the Captain.
Seriously, though, good for you. Can you feel an overall difference in your health?
One note: A recent longitudinal study on longevity found that people who consume only 1 drink or less per day have a higher incidence of heart disease and shorter longevity than even heavy drinkers. Not advice to be a heavy drinker, of course (that presents many problems of its own), but there is health in the grape, it appears.

I don't feel any difference at all. Yeah, I've seen the news about the apparent benefits of drinking alcoholic beverages.

I quit drinking alcohol around 20 years ago.
Both my father and brother would of been considered alcoholics by today's standards. My biggest problem with drinking was I didn't like it.
I tried like hell to be a drunk at one time drinking a qt. of JD a night.
But I finally just said the hell with it and quit, with no withdrawal or other problems.
I still have a drink on occasion (I do like Irish Cream), but a couple of small glasses of booze puts me out.
