I hope the games do go ahead.

I'm a big fan of them, which I probably learned from my mum; she always says that she doesn't mind who wins the medals because the commonwealth nations "feel as if they're family". (I have relatives in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, so this isn't too far from the truth)

But now that a section of ceiling in the weighlifting arena has collapsed, a walkway to the stadium has collapsed and the athlete's accommodation isn't waterproof, it isn't looking good....

I wonder whether these games will be quickly relocated to another venue/country?

If these games got delayed or cancelled, it would be a very sad day for India. After all, they have been comparing themselves to China with the aim of catching and surpassing it. But the contrast with the Olympic games in 2008 could not be greater.

Statements like these do not help

"Everyone has different standards about cleanliness. The Westerners have different standards, we have different standards," organising committee secretary-general Lalit Bhanot told a packed media conference.

Surely, Indian athletes have lived in other athletes villages and know what the usual standards are? This is very poor for the image of India and I hope they sort it out.

Australia should not go but the games should go ahead so another country can win for a change.

Any attempt to boycott or move the games elsewhere would be a grievious insult to all Indians.

I am afraid that India has insulted the Commonwealth by not producing accomodation and venues on time and in a suitable condition.

It's such a shame... We shouldn't have applied to host the games, in the first place. We don't have enough infrastructure for our own domestic athletes to practice on, let alone host an international event of such magnitude.

And even after the bid was won, giving the responsibility to the public sector was like suicide.

Sumit, do you think that the mishaps suffered by the Commonwealth Games will change the way that things are done in India?

Nope... Neither the people nor the government care a great deal about sports here except, of course, for cricket.

Commonwealth Games are not at all popular in India. I still don't know when the Games are scheduled to start. (And I've lost all the interest to find out) I wouldn't have even known that the Games are this year if it weren't for the corruption controversy.
