Who's recommending these "guru" signatures?

Lately, most of the lists that I'm on, seem to be signing off with some kind of "what they are doing at the moment" middle name.

Ex: Brett "Back Again" Favre

I'm convinced, either they all read the same book,or, went to the same seminar

I would just like to know the source.

    Mike Merz was always a good one at doing this too (many years ago).

    It does help you remember people, though. For example, there was a woman on the old Tony Blake forum that called herself "Jane the Menu Maker." Now how is that I still remember her name after what... 10 years? Lots of other names have long since slipped my mind. And even if I remembered the names, I probably wouldn't remember what those folks did.

    It's a bit o' branding.

    I have been known to do it from time to time, though it varies and is usually done for humorous effect.

    But my inspiration actually goes back to Iron Maiden's album The Number of the Beast. Each member of the band hand a little nickname; for example Bruce "Air Raid Siren" Dickinson.

    Not saying they created the idea, not by a long shot. It also shows that the practice isn't exclusive to IM.
