I've worked myself into a state of anxiety!

I found out today my girlfriends kids dad (her ex) is 1 year older than me ... he's 27 and he had a heart attack.

He used to be on heroin when he was younger, not sure what he takes now but I am guessing he still does pills and that sort of stuff. I know he was on subutex and takes valium.

He recently joined the gym, but was taking on more than he could chew in life.

I don't know much about what happened. He is still alive. Although we don't really get a long on a friendship level it's still sad news.

I'm working myself into an anxiety now because I don't live a super healthy lifestyle and work far to hard at the computer. Time for a change in diet, drink and well being.

His was probably related to drugs, smoking, drink, gym, work etc.

I don't want to knock a healthy lifestyle, but...
I've seen enough people on both sides of the aisle have health problems, just as I've seen both people on both sides lead long healthy lives.
Myself I do what I want and so far it has worked for me, but I wouldn't recommend my life style to anyone.
I guess what I'm saying is, making healthy choices isn't a bad thing, but it's not a guarantee you will live a long healthy life.

    I agree with you.

the super healthy miss the required fats and "bad" stuff your body actually needs in small doses. And the daily fast food eaters miss the vitamins and minerals. I myself like a bit of in between.

I've been looking into some foods that I can replace such as crisps and chocolate. I'm going to get myself some cocoa nibbs as they contain a lot of antioxidants.

I think my fast metabolism has been a blessing. Quitting smoking and alcohol for me has been a good thing too.

You could eat healthy and exercise and still die from a heart attack or get hit by a bus. When your times up your times up!

My sister-in-law - her Mum is terminally ill with a very aggressive type of lung cancer, she is only in her early 60's. She never smoked a day in her life and yet she gets struck down with this disease. Then you can have smokers that smoke all their life and live til their 90. You just don't know how you're going to die or what from.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't try and live a healthy life - I am one for trying to live as healthy as I can. All I'm saying is that anything can happen to anyone, so worrying yourself about it won't change anything.

Do you know that 95% of the things people worry about never happen!

It's sad to hear and he is very young to have a heart attack, but these things do happen. It doesn't mean it will happen to you. And like you said he was heavily into drugs which could possibly have had something to do with it.

My favorite George Burns line...He was about 94 when he was asked what his doctor said about him smoking 5 cigars a day and drinking 12 martinis a day:

"I don't know. My doctor died 30 years ago."

Have a healthy diet, work in moderation, and STOP being anxious! The worst thing you can do for your health is thinking negatively. Calm down and as we say in IM take action!

Twenty years ago I was feeling palpitations, and the family doc sent me to a cardiologist. (Turned out to be nothing serious - too much caffeine.) The first question the cardiologist asked me was if I had ever "done" any form of cocaine. Fortunately I had not, because he said it damages the heart.

I know a fellow who had his first bypass surgery at age 28. His body just kept generating large amounts of cholesterol. He had another bypass surgery at age 50.

Point is, her ex may have the type of body that generates blocked arteries, or if he has been into street drugs, has used cocaine. Maybe both.

Just get your cholesterol levels checked so you can quit worrying.
