So I am looking for some career to study related to IM. I thought about studying just marketing, but is there another career even more related?

    Hello Paula,

I could probably write a report on the things you touched on in your OP. But
    I won't.

In my mind you've answered your own question. You've been reading here in the WF
for several years, so you may have read many peoples' comments about following
    one's passion.

Not sure I understand why you want to study something related to IM, but I
think perhaps it has to do with getting a higher education. College degree?

My own personal opinion is you can learn a helluva lot more reading this entire
forum rather than getting a degree in business ad, marketing, or advertising.

They have their value and not knocking it. But I would say those areas would
do you more good if you want to get a job in corp career track thing.

My very strong opinion, feelings, beliefs... is you'll do your brain/mind/intelligence
a great service by majoring in English. Yes, that's right. That is if the 'college
    degree' is important.

At this point in my life I would encourage anyone to major in English. That will
train your mind in so many ways. An English major is not easy - make no mistake
    about that.

Major in English and minor in science related things if you're interested.

You can always continue to learn here in the WF, and hopefully you'll take action
    on something.

You talked about having time or finding time to 'do IM.' I think we'll all tell you
it's only gonna get worse - having time. There is no right time to take action. Any
day is the right time. Just do something. Work hard and don't worry about
    anything.

Hope that helped and good luck.

    Ken

    Hi Paula,

I can appreciate your interest in IM, but at the same time, you are 15 years young. You have the whole world ahead of you.

Your education is much to important not to pursue. Lots of people aren't fortunate enough to be in your situation. Get your education, the time will fly bye quickly. Dabble in IM on the side.

I know when I was 15, I thought I knew everything. Trust me, that comes from wisdom, and wisdom takes time! Get your education as it's too important to pass up.

This is a tough one. I think it can be bad for a teenager to have miscommunication with parents (assuming the parents aren't criminal or totally psychotic). Maybe you should try to talk it out with your parents and find a happy medium.

Going to university at your age, Paula, is going to be an awesome experience. College is so much more than the classes you take. You will make contacts that you will keep for a life time. You will study subjects that will expand your thinking about yourself and the world.

I agree with Ken. English is a great major and stepping stone for most any profession. And a science minor will help keep you on track if you do decide to go for medicine.

You can scale back your IM activities or if you have a good system in place that is making money, you can use some of that money to hire outsourcers to do the majority of the work for you.

I understand how you might feel that going to university will hurt your IM business. But you have so much to gain at college, much more than just a future profession. And hey... if you hate it you can always quit.

        Mr. Poorman,

Actually the other member highly recommended majoring in English rather
        than merely taking English classes.

The beauty of IM is that nothing cancels it out. Just about anything under the sun can be applied to IM and, so, can be relevant to it.

My degree course combined mathematics, design, electronics, chemistry, law, accountancy, management and lots of science.

      Have you guessed it?

      Mechanical engineering!

P.S. Sorry to disagree with Ken and others, but I would not like to compete in today's job market armed only with an English degree.

        Paula -

You talk about your "passion" for IM and marketing but what you have right now is a dream. You haven't tried it, you haven't done the daily grind to get things done and you don't know if you will like it or not.

You need to know about business, economics, mathematics, management, English and marketing. You have a rare opportunity - parents willing and able to provide you with a full education.

The best path you could follow is to take courses for the higher education originally planned and spend the next year working in IM part time to see if you can do what you "know" is possible.

Don't try to convert your family to your way of thinking until you can show them income and potential in your IM ventures. Stop reading about IM and begin doing it.

The "time" excuse doesn't cut it. There are people on this forum with great IM incomes who also work full time jobs or careers. Heart surgeon, attorney, engineer, nurse. Many full time university students work IM part time during their years of education and have a choice of a successful IM business full-time when they graduate.

These people are responsible for providing their own shelter/food/expenses and often have family obligations to their children, too. If they can "find" time to get started in IM - a student can do it.

Yeah, I know you are right, and I have already started with it, I'm number 5 in the first page of google results for my main keyword! But I still have got a LOT of things to improve and a LOT of ways to drive more traffic to my site x100 times (I've got around 70-100 visits per day), and I've got a LOT of ideas in mind , just have to apply them. And yes, you're right about trying some marketing before actually saying that I like it, but just from reading about it I actually know that I'm going to like it! My mother is studying right now Business Administration, and one of the subjects she has got is marketing. I've read the work they send her and I find everything really interesting! And I have been googling marketing today the whole day and I really LOVE it! I think that it's my perfect career.

"Passionates" is not a word, but it should be. I like it! "Passionate" is an adjective.
