They announced on the radio a lot of people were getting married on 10/10/10 in the UK, hoping that this day would be very lucky for them - let's hope so.

Technically, ALL calendar dates are equally rare. It's only special when you start adding different "rules" to the dates.

So...today is 10/11/10 - AND THERE WON'T BE ANOTHER ONE FOR 1,000 YEARS!!!

But it gets even more rare when you write it as 10/11/2010 - There won't be another one of those (using the same calendar)...EVER!!!

Just to get a jump on things, next year we will have 9/10/11 AND 11/11/11, what are the odds? There will also be a 10/11/12, 12/12/12 and barring the end of the world, a 11/12/13, 12/13/14 but using the MM/DD/YY format, there won't be a 13/14/15.

The last day with all odd digits was 11/31/1999, and won't happen again until 1/1/3111, BUT if you count 0 as non-odd, then 01/01/3111, doesn't count, in which case you have to wait until 11/11/3111 - I can hardly wait!

100 years, as long as people are still around 10/10/10(aka 2110)! 8-)

yeah, that is another point. WHY do we have three popular numeric date formats?

      10/11/10 american
11/10/10 most other non asian areas
      and
      10.10.11 japan and perhaps elsewhere

ALL refer to the same date. 8-(

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the correction and/or clarifications. I typed it up quickly and was actually hoping somebody would catch any mistakes if I made any.

They actually had some so-called """expert""" (sorry, even three sets of air quptes don't seem like enough) on the Today Show telling everybody how 10/10/10 was special, and that it worked out to '5' which means celebration and that everybody should light 3 white candles and focus on them and...blah, blah, blah...what a waste of air time.

Oh well, if it sells books...

    All the best,
    Michael

How did they say 10/10/10 work out to 5?
It COULD be 2/2/2 which COULD add up to 6
OR it could be 32+8+2 which could add up to 42. 42 is an *, but the HGTTG(sp?) says it is the answer to EVERYTHING! HEY, maybe it IS special! 8-) Nah J/K

By adding each of the digits to each other, as follows:

        1+0+1+0+2+0+1+0 = 1+1+2+1 = 5

Wait! I'm going to turn 42 this year.

        All the best,
