When shopping, do you buy the generic brand over the name brand?

Most of the time I buy generic because it's a lot cheaper than name brands. And most of the time name brands are costly just because of the name. They pay celebs millions to promote their products and pass the cost on to consumers for example.

I almost always buy the generic or store brand. The only exception is yogurt and if the name brands are on sale for cheaper than the store brand.

I tend to go with generic too! I usually will look and see if the ingredients are the same. Most of the time the answer is YES!

It depends. I buy Jif peanut butter because I tried a few store brands and found that they didn't taste as good. For most other things I buy the generic or store brand.

BTW, some generic drugs are not as effective as the brand-name versions. On the surface, it doesn't seem like that's possible, but if you know a little about pharmaceutical science it's easy to see how it could happen.

You're spot on there Phil, though I have found a few generics that are as good and even a little better then the name brands. Like I said only a few and that is very few.
As for groceries I'll do a price, weight, and ingredient comparison.
Usually the store brands or generics win out.
But like Mike and Phil mentioned if they don't taste as good as the name brands and no one will eat them then their not worth the savings.
Phil if you want to try something really horrible then try Hannafords Peanut Spread I should of known better when it said peanut spread and not peanut butter. Their peanut butter is pretty good though, go figure.

I'll usually go for the generic unless I've found out through trial & error that's it's not as good.

Only things I won't go for generic on are the important things...then I go for the REAL thing---beer, wine, & men. jk:p...hmmm..or am I

I usually buy generic, but there are few items I won't - because of the taste.

Mostly I buy name brand because I like having a money mentality. (Where money is abundant and I can buy whatever I want.) Just one of my personality quirks I suppose. When I was younger my parents were all about saving money and talking about how scarce it was.

I used to buy generics, but now it's mostly name brands because of all the shoddy products flooding the market.

I buy fresh products for food so I suppose I buy generic.

I buy what appeals to my eye, otherwise.
