How do I send Private email on twitter?

Hi Guys

I find that if I need to send somebody a private message on twitter I have got to post it on their wall which makes it visible to everyone, does anyone have any idea on how to send someone a private message on Twitter?

    FYI : You can only DM someone who is following you. You may have to send them an @ message, requesting that they follow you for a DM conversation.

      DM - direct message it's like a PM in most forums

      They have to be following you, and it won't be an e-mail unless they have their account set up to receive e-mail notifications of direct messages.
