        hey sleaklight,

Sorry to hear that! Don't feel bad about being rejected. We've rejected over 2,000 publishers and have only accepted around 400+. Please apply again and provide me your cj id and name. I will accept it.

        Hi zzman,

Thank you for providing me your inquiry. I also saw your private message, but could not reply due to low post count.

The forum only version provides you everything the CMS has except for the blog and CMS itself. The facebook style conversations in profiles and video embedding are also included with the forum classic. There are other features that I believe you would enjoy in the product. You can customize the forum to any way that suits your needs and wants.

We also have tons of Free plugins down at our sister site vBulletin.org

Basically the #1 reason why people purchase the CMS system is because it is fully seamlessly integrated with the forum software itself. You don't need some type of "bridge plugin" to connect your CMS with the forum. So for example, if you have wordpress, and you want your forum users to comment on your articles, you would need a custom plugin to bridge your Wordpress with the forum. However, if you have the CMS, you don't need any of that. They can easily post comments on your articles. That's the best feature in my opinion.

I'm having a big problem with spam users thanks to the damn auto posting software being sold to "marketers". Is there a way to keep spammers from joining? I had to put it on manual approval and now I have thousands of people who I haven't approved, of which 99% I'm sure are not real people.

I'm sure the warriors would appreciate it / @ Tim /\ I had a big chat a while back on another thread where we were swamped and the guys gave me some good tips. Not that it has cured the problem but it has helped greatly.

what we have done is pretty well shut down all loving / no Sig links / links and i have set a X days / X posts user upgrade in place.

this has stopped pretty well much of the crap coming in and also lets you weed out the strays, but if your saying they are also jumping past the approval entry point ? that is a new one but we do not have the enforced / manual submission in place.

the above restrictions has not hampered forum enrollments, what is being seen is an increase of people enrolling / also a higher rate of those in the forum posting again, it seems people want the forums to be rubbish free and respond positive when you take steps to eliminate it.

I see even tougher measures in my new digs shortly.

      Hey Tim,

Great news, I have uploaded a video on our official vbulletin channel about spam prevention. Go check it out and see if any of my tips help.

I can't post links since I am still at 1 post, but just go on youtube and search for vBulletin4 user.

It's not just keeping the users from posting links, but keeping these "users" from even joining. I mean, it's obvious they are not even remotely interested in the niche, with names pornboy781 or vicondincheap229.

Thanks for the video and to Pete for posting it. I'll check it out now.

You can black list those words from registration. Then again, they'll just change their username to not contain those words. :\

    Tim,

Most forum software have very good communities of users who create add-ons, etc. I have not run a board in quite some time, but I remember using registration plugins that require the user to answer a basic question (that you determine) or the reg process does not finish. So you could ask: "What color was George Washingtons white horse?" and set the answer to white. Only real users can answer correctly.

I would go in to vBulletin's developer/user community and look for something like that. It's not foolproof, but when I ran a board a couple years back I went from hundreds of fake users to only a couple dozen. Much easier to handle.

    Hey Jasper,

You can upgrade your account to a WAR ROOM member, for $37 for 20 years... http://warriorforum.com/payments.php .. That will allow you to use the PM system very early .

Anyways, I wanted to know. As a vBulletin customer, and a xenforo customer, can you comment on the law suit between the two companies? I'm quite dissapointed when you guys said "you hope customers understand the copyright infringement", but that claim was never backed up.. and it makes me wonder whether you're trying to hurt xenforo sales.

I'm willing to buy more licenses. But I don't want to buy, if people aren't going to be open about whats really go ing on in this lawsuit.

I purchase vbulletin and installed it. But I am having a hard time getting to learn how to use it. I try to post a thread and it gives me this message: Forums

Is there videos which will show me how to do the basics and get started. The user manual seems very tedious.

      Forums

You have things set as categories. You can't post in a category, hence why you check the box "forum is closed for posting".

you n eed to create sub forums of that category in order to be able to post in them.

As for videos, so far I haven't heard of any, you just need to get used to the admin panel, and the system

      Hey zzman,

I'm very delighted to hear you purchase our software. vBulletin has a great support community at vbulletin.com/forum

May I ask where you tried posting a new thread? Try posting it in your Main Forum and see if it works.

I understand that even for experienced users, it can be a little intimidating at first. Play around with the settings and let me know if you're still having difficulties customizing your forum. It should take a day or two to get used to.

We have a channel down at youtube called vBulletin4. You should be able to view some video tutorials we've uploaded. Though, we haven't really utilized it for beginners, I will see to it that I upload more to the channel.

Anyways please let me know if you're having any trouble.

I have thought about buying vbulletin in the past on several occasions, but a few things have held me back, so maybe you can relay my issues to people who might be able to take care of them.

    1. The blog function on your CMS doesn't act much like a real blog from what I can gather, especially the way it handles photos, etc. It should be made so that users can simply upload and insert a photo in a wysiwyg editor (like wordpress).

    2. In #1 above, I said, "from what I can gather," because I couldn't "gather" much. There's no real way to test out things like the blog. Which brings me to #3 - a BIGGIE.

    3. The vBulletin pre-sales forum is $#!+. ... Sorry, but that's just the way it is. Because they limit testing on things such as the blogging function, I am forced to post in the only forum open to me - the pre-sales forum. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that vBulletin has a lot of interest in making sales, because my questions there routinely go unanswered.

At first I thought, "Are you serious?" But after it happened a number of times, I determined they were.

That's a big concern for me. If I'm going to pay for software, I'd like to know there's some customer service behind it. When there isn't even anyone willing to try to sell me the software in the first place, I can only assume it will get worse after I've bought it.

        Hi Trivum,

I'd be more than happy to answer your questions...

1.) The vBulletin 4 blog does come with it's very own WYSIWYG editor. You can copy and paste articles with pictures and it will automatically convert the text and images similar to Wordpress. Have you tested the blog? Maybe the one you've tried had the WYSIWYG editor disabled.

2.) Would you like to test out the blog and other features? I can direct you to my test forum and give you full administrator rights.

3.) Sorry to hear about the poor support you've been receiving in the forums. We usually answer all questions that our customers and non customers post. If you can direct me to your question, I'd be more than happy to answer it to the best of my abilities.

When you purchase our software, you will receive access to our Tech Support Team where they answer all questions within 1 hour of sending a ticket.

Anyways if you'd like to contact me directly, you can message me at vBulletin.com/forum/forum.php and contact JasperAguila. I'll give you my full personal support.

vBulletin does not officially release other language translations out of the box. However you can easily install "language packs" using the user friendly "language and phrases" system. The language packs can be downloaded here...

Jasper, I'm aware that other forums have translated the forum to other languages and it is managed by the language files. However, I find that they do a rather poor job at it. Will vBulletin release any official language translations? I've looked around and can't find anything official or maybe there is something official released and I have missed it?

    Thanks,
    Oscar

      Hey mrozlat,

Many webmasters that purchase vBulletin use the software to implement a community around their service or product. By providing a place for communication with and among customers, you will generate an additional source of educational information. Not only will your customers learn more about your service or product, but you will as well! I've created numerous forums over the years, and the knowledge I've learned is better than any books I've read or college courses I've taken. It's in that regard, forums are a valuable tool for further expanding your brands presence and learning more about your particular niche.
