How to promote ebook?

Hi,

I am new at the forum, as well as internet marketing. May I get some tips from experienced warriors how they promoted their ebooks? (Or links to related posts)

Hy hobby is writing, so I wrote some ebooks already, mainly on the topic I know most about: Moving to and living in Malaysia as an expat. Because some side income would be nice, these are for sale. But I wrote other free ebooks and have the same problem with promoting. I tried freebie sites and ebook directories already. Any recommendations for me?

Thanks a lot!

P.S. If you want to have a look at them, visit my albums at this forum.

I would recommend you to use social bookmarking service. Millions of people will be aware of your book. But you should care about a catchy title!

There are so many ways to promote it that I would suggest that you select a manageable number of strategies and fully carry them out:
        1. Convert a small chunk of ebook or summary of it to video, then upload to video sharing websites such as youtube. Make it helpful rather than a blatant ad (viewers respond better to it this way), and simply include a link at the beginning and end of video and beginning of description (Example Web Page).
        2. Publish articles on article hubs on hubpages.com, including info on your ebook in your resource box. These should be unique articles.
        3. Write a *newsworthy* press release that is so strong that it doesn't come across as an ad for your ebook (even if that is what it is), then distribute on online press release sites (and maybe send it out as hardcopy to venues as well. Snail mail gets noticed nowadays, lol)
        4. Set up twitter account and make comments that your target market would appreciate (*don't* be spammy, not because it's bad so much as it doesn't actually work).
        5. Set up an account on social network site (whichever) and actively participate in relevant chat groups.
        6. If you don't have time for the above, outsource it to quality service providers.
        7. Consistently add to the above.

    Hi there,

thanks to Daryl Lim, Mozzyweb, mila123, thunderbird!

Done many of the above already, run a blog and websites, article writing not my favorite but I wrote some, bookmarked at MisterWong Delicoius Digg..., 3 Twitter accounts already, I have some problems with Facebook, Flickr photos... Seems I´m doing something wrong, or the niche is too small.

Haven´t tried the video thing and the press release, so I will try this next.

Thanks again and have a nice weekend :-)

Have you thought of adding your ebook to the clickbank market place using Clickbank as your merchant will allow other people to promote your ebook for a cut of the sale price, maybe well worth looking into as there's a lot of people who do very well as a vendor on CB!

Yes indeed, I thought about clickbank. But there I have to invest around $50 to get listed for every ebook. Still thinking about it.

this thread interests me too, I have a book that I have been promoting in various offline ways.

Doing public speaking always does well at converting to sales.
Email blasts of special deals too has worked

The mention of get affiliates to promote it for you I've done and setup on clickbank and got the sales page, but how do I go about getting affiliate marketers to promote it?

Another tip is to make it an affiliate product and have others earn a commission every time they sell a book for you!

We do that with our services and products.

You can upload your ebook to Amazon.com, there are not enough ebooks for the Kindle or the other readers in their library. You do not have to promote yourself as you have the biggest online company selling your book for you. You also get reviews that you can use and the commission isn't bad either.

      Thanks Gradle!

Amazon is worth considering. I have to find out more about the costs and the conditions.

      What I found out:
No cost for submit to Amazon, 70% royalty for sales in US and UK, 35 % royalties for all other countries, 60 days for payout, + download fee per kb.
(no www) dtp.amazon.com/mn/signin (sorry I am not allowed to submit URL)

        Update:

still working on the upload of my ebook to Amazon. Made the ebook as slim as possible, had to say godbye to many images.

Found out that ISBN is not necessary anymore, saves $125.

But struggle with the upload. I converted the ebook doc file to the mobipocket format, but when I upload it to amazon the images disappear and all the blanks are gone.
When I upload the original word document the images are there, but the table of content is gone.

Think I have to convert the doc to html somehow. Will try that tomorrow.

Wow - it's in German - I didn't expect that, probably because we are writing English here so it never occurred to me to think of it being in another language.

Congratulations on getting it up on Amazon!
