Okay.. One of my friends asked me to suggest a graphics card for his new PC and I was looking through NVIDIA stuff. Boy they cost a lot.

He is looking for something in the range of $60-$120 or less than that. Any suggestions... Probably with Pixel Shader, Vertex Shader and T&L support. Or how much would a good performance card with these features cost?

Sumit.

    Hi,

Does your friend play games...if so what games?

What are the specs of his new PC?

Is he purchasing it in India?

Once we have ascertained the above , I should be able to recommend something sensible.

    Cheers,

    Manuel

      Hey Sumit,

Don't buy a graphics card until you look at this data.

      http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/

      Then see what TPF recommends.

This is the first time he's buying a PC and he said he'd like to play games. Well, the specs aren't finalized yet... Yes he is purchasing it in India.

      Thanks,
      Sumit.

ok...what games...and also what budget does he have?

the key is to spec the PC to the level of the games you want to play...Notwithstanding your budget of course.

The truth of the matter is that for ordinary tasks like web browsing a bit of word processing , an excel spreadsheet or two, even an abomination from Intel's graphic card department will do the trick.

But...Once you truly know what you want to play , you will be able to choose more wisely.

Up untill a couple of weeks ago, my main PC was an Athlon single core 3200 with an Nvidia 8600 GS...This is very ancient, but was sufficient for me to play BF2 and BF2142 at acceptable levels, I currently play TF2 and that was still enough, I was just given a spare motherboard with a dual core Athlon at 3600, bought some new RAM and now have still a very ancient PC but more than capable of handling all my IM tasks as well as my current gaming.

Next upgrade will be assessed with the needs of Diablo 3 and BF3 in mind.

So be forthcoming with needs and budget and I will advise
