"There's more water on the moon than on certain places on Earth. That's the conclusion of many scientists who have spent the past year analyzing data from NASA's LCROSS spacecraft..."

And..

"the LCROSS impact debris confirms evidence of a menu of compounds including hydrogen, carbon monoxide, sodium, silver, mercury, magnesium, ammonia, methane, calcium and gold."

I bolded "methane" above...I'm not a chemist, but isn't methane caused by living organisms?

Methane is also caused by certain geological processes, though. NASA elaborates:

"On Earth, the conversion of iron oxide (rust) into the serpentine group of minerals creates methane, and on Mars this process could proceed using water, carbon dioxide, and the planet's internal heat.

Now that they found it, I wonder how long it will take to destroy it or make it un-usable??

  That's what went through my head - "great, now we have another cosmic orb to **** up royally. It's more than a little sick that we've messed up our own sources so bad that we have to look for new ones. Commercialized space exploration will have us drinking pure water again yet.....of course, the damned plastic bottles they put it in will still be toxic.

Not to hi-jack the thread topic, but you're so well versed on the weather topics, etc.
Have you ever heard of/researched HAARP in Alaska? I saw a show last night about it.........sad & frightening the things we can do with our tech. intelligence.

Andie - in 2005 there was legislation to make it illegal to change weather. I'm thinking that if they were legislating it, that we can assume the ability is there. There is also a problem with spraying, I believe bromide - or something similar, to enhance radar. Unfortunately what they are spraying is poisonous and ends up in soil and water, not to mention people's lungs. They were supposed to stop it. Did they? Not sure - if the sky has a strange silvery quality, it's that crap, sky isn't silver naturally. That stuff is also large particulate so it's going to either trap heat or not let it in.

There was a lot of conspiracy theory around that major quake in China a few years back that said it was HAARP action because of a strange glow in the sky previous to the quake, but considering minerals and how they can react, I seriously doubt that was a false flag action and think that normal mineral/magnetic field reactions could have easily caused the glow.

As far as HAARP itsself - they have wild abilities and technology, and the governments in power worldwide now are not reputed for their honesty and integrity, so who knows what the heck they are doing up there. It's not like they are gonna tell us unless they start stuff so frightening that someone decides to leak the info - and then it will go to those who watch this type of thing and will be discounted by the rest as "conspiracy theory".

In other words - whatever they decide to do, or are doing, we're not likely to know about it until they make a mistake that is too large to keep hidden and by then it will be too late.

As far as one of the things they are doing up there - I think they are very involved in helping to build the space shield (to shield us from dangerous solar energies in an emergency. This project is possibly being canceled, though.
Another thing they are doing is messing with the upper layers of the atmosphere - but I'm not sure what for. It's not safe at any rate unless they know one hell of a lot more than they are telling us, which is likely.

We have mad scientists all over everything but how to clean up the water we have destroyed. In fact - in many places purposeful destruction of water (and everything else) is ongoing and thriving.

  The track record for what happens with the really amazing, great discoveries we find in nature or develop with our human brains just hasn't proven to be well-handled by the decision makers.
  ie: the inventor of the HAARP system made it in hopes of using it to END droughts and/or flooding in the world.
  Amazingly awesome abilities. He simply 'quit' the project when the military stepped in and began the 'defense' shield concept. He never intended the knowledge to be used for anything but to better humankind.
  
  I'll be the first to say...I have become a cynical person over the years
  about great discoveries and new technologies. The beauty of them seems to be fleeting once the greedy, money-power hungry get involved. Which doesn't seem to end well for the masses of the world.

Ice on the Moon makes it much easier and cheaper to live there. In addition to eliminating the need to ship water from Earth for drinking, watering crops, etc; H2O can also be broken down into oxygen for breathing and hydrogen for fuel.

  I don't think that the Moon will save us from anything.
  
  Whether or not the Moon is big depends on your definition of big. The surface area of the Moon is equal to that of Africa and Australia combined.
