The moment has come, when I have to write articles for myself and I keep postponing it because I keep on thinking...What if I make grammatic errors?...What if the use of words is not appropriate?...What if my contents are too rich of info or not enough info?
Can you give me some encouragement, those of you that are experienced? Thanks in advance!

Exactly! Most writers I've worked with have had spelling or grammar errors in their content at some stage, and it's not a deal breaker. If you make sure your articles have useful and valuable information, that's more important than sitting on your hands doing nothing just in case you make an error. Just do it.

I think it's great that you even worry about that considering so many people today can't write properly and don't care.

That is so true. I remember when perfectly coherent English would undergo grammatical nitpicking. If it does nowadays too, then there must be two parallel forms of English running concurrently -- a well-structured and logically consistent level for more formal settings and an illiterate-looking level used for informal every day communication ('n'mean?)

Grammatical errors are not life changing events. No one bleeds, the sky doesn't fall, the world doesn't end if you make a mistake when writing.

You won't know what you can do until you try. You can't improve until you are working at doing it.

The worst that happens is you have to make corrections. Not so bad.

It's not about your writing - it's about putting off getting started.

  • You have to start somewhere. I am not much of a writer but I just started writing and as time went on I got a little better. I also had comment thatwere made to my blog that suggested some things and i learned from that as well.

I also took everyday happenings and used those things and added that into my writings. You will be surprised at what you will be able to write over time.

I agree with Andie - get a proofreader if possible - proofreading isn't expensive.

There are, however, a lot of proofreaders out there that know nothing more than the writer themselves.

Andie is said to be very good (I've never read her writing, but believe the sources are competent to know what is good and what isn't), so let her have a go at one of your articles.

I will also offer to proof 2 of them -- and will suggest areas of grammar you might want to study a little bit. You don't have to take whole courses in grammar to pick up knowledge of an area you seem to be lacking in. Just a brush up in a text book on the areas that mess you up should do the trick if you are even average in your language skills. I have a relevant degree and still have to check back on a few things now and again, particularly in the word usage area -- effect/affect just get me sometimes, so do a few other ww errors like compliment/complement.

Even the most well educated and skilled can be victim of mental blocks sometimes. Ya just never know what you need to help yourself develop until you actually put something in writing. You never STOP developing just because you are an expert in the rules.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I will take them all into account...
As Kay says: I think that my "panicking" has a lot to do with the getting started part...

try this to get going....set a specific time to 'write' and determine a length of time to do it (be it a half hour, 20 min, ten min ..whatever)
Save your Title for last and start a timer/set an alarm.

You must write during this time-frame without regard to the correctness, seo value etc...just get what is in your head out on the document. Good bad or ugly....just keep to general topic(s) you want.

When time is up - you stop. Take a break and go back later and read it to see if you covered what you wanted, and pick an appropriate title for the piece. This is where you may re-arrange paragraphs, words etc from a 'reader' point of view. again, happy to proofread for you if you're concerned about grammar/spelling etc let me know

If you don't use it, I recommend the Google Doc platform - very easy and much like word etc. and it's everywhere you go.

The best advice I once got was to “write for the trash can”. Write thinking you are just going to throw it away when you are done. Sounds kind of weird but it takes the stress out of writing.
