What would you do if you had no internet for a few days.

I will go to a public cyber cafe. In fact, I'm using one right now because I gave my laptop to a friend so I want to get a new PC.

Pen. Paper. Plan.

Or, record an audio product for my niche.

I'm no help; I would be sunk without my internet. I do have a great connection, I think we've only had two days of no access in the last two years. I have got a good 3G mobile connection for the netbook now, so I suppose I wouldn't be too lost.

Other than that, I'd take a holiday and read instead.

Hi, please do not let this prevent you from continuing to conduct your internet business. You should set some goals. For example, you should decide to go to any internet cafe that is close to where you stay and work your business for maybe 1 or 2 hours a day... 3, 4 times a week... It all depends on you...hope this will help

Our local council library has internet available at a very reasonable cost. That would be one option, but they don't have coffee, so I'd be with King Shiloh and head for a cyber cafe!

I think most of us would be screwed if we were to go without Internet for any extended period of time. But if I had no choice then I would make sure I always had stuff I could be doing when the Internet is down.

It can actually be a blessing in disguise I think. No Internet means no interruptions.

Make the most of the down-time by working on material you can upload as soon as the connection returns - articles, things like that.

Some good ideas above...

I presume you thought of the obvious ones mentioned like coffee shops, library, etc. if you have them close by.

If you do use your 3G card, watch your bandwidth usage - you don't want a huge bill to pile on to your other troubles!

How about just going to a neighbor's house? Anyone around that would have Internet they would rent you for a few hours?

I have 3G back up on a laptop but that is unreliable.

Cyber cafes are good as are the local library - but privacy is a bit of an issue.

An internet connection is a necessity. It should be available on the NHS.

cyber cafe will be an option. Because we all can't live without our work, so to continue your work you have to find an alternative.

Brainstorm, plan, create lists. Alternatively, take your laptop to a bar or cafe with free access and work from there. Get a decent cell phone that you can user full internet on.

Get some fresh air, take the kids out for a game of football, tidy my house, visit friends etc

These are all things I did recently when my internet went down, that normally get overlooked when I am in work mode.

After a couple days away from my PC I was refeshed and raring to go again, with a better attitude than not having a break.

It must be in the area you live, Because both don't work good? my backup would be my blackberry!

I just had that exact situation today. The internet was down when we woke up so I called my ISP and they told it would be late today. The were servicing routers in our area.

I grabbed my 3G USB adapter in the notebook, fired it up, and then called this ISP. They use the other ISP as their feed. (Really I did not start laughing hysterically....)

This is an very interesting question. I thought of it as well because next month I am moving to Singapore to work (I'm Malaysian by the way). Since I am new to the environment, probably I only a broadband after I do survey around the place. Well, probably during the time without internet, I will go to cyber cafe or stay at company longer to online after work :p

I can't stand being away from the computer for a couple of hours at the moment. When the ball is rolling it's hard to stop. I think if I wasn't able to get online I'd try and get away from it all for a while. Stop thinking IM, stop thinking business and work. Just take a trip and take my mind off everything. It's amazing that when I do something like this I come back with a whole new perspective and see everything in a new light. I took a holiday with my family to Thailand about this time last year and it was magic!

It is good to take a break and spend time with family and friends, well , at least our eyes will not be 'stuck' to the screen. So go out and play! Will feel more refreshed and perhaps generate better ideas...

Well, when it happens to me, my first response is, "Oh, Sh..!" And almost immediately after, "Yippee! Another School Snow Day!" (even though it's summer) and I end up doing absolutely nothing on my business - watch TV, work in the garden, do some small project around the house, play with the dog, take a walk at the local forest, or play computer games (sure wish I could stop THAT addiction!).

Then, there are times when I really want to work that day and start looking for alternative projects that don't require the internet. For example, writing blog posts and articles to add when the internet comes back. Prepare a short report or work on one of my Niche Kits. Or I might revamp one of my web pages using FrontPage.

Another project that I often ignore is planning and learning, in which case I open one of the great products I've purchased on various IM and Affiliate Marketing and study those. Or I go through the huge package on the Law of Attraction that I just purchased. There's always something on my computer that I can read related to work, so at least I'm learning.

If I really need to get things done, I head for my local library where the internet is free. They provide small private study rooms where I can set up shop and connect to the internet with my laptop. The books are handy for my research. I tend not to get my info from the internet for my projects because I want fresh material - not just rehashed stuff, so going to the library is a common occurrence for me.

And, of course, there's the added benefit of actually being around other humans for awhile - something I don't get to do very often since I started working from home. It lifts your spirits and helps put things into perspective.

After I've driven everyone crazy because of Internet withdrawl, I'd just go to the library or to Kinko's to get some work done.

I have mobile 3G internet, so that would be my back up in case my home internet connection went out. If my 3G decided to act up on me, then I'd pack up my laptop and drive to the nearest McDonald's, bookstore, library or pizza restaurant that offers free wi-fi (I know of at least 5 that are within half a mile of my residence).

Prety much the same as you to be honest, Ive got HDSPA internet on my Windows BAsed Phone which isnt too bad, other than that you could go old skool and buy a modem as a temporary solution.

Apart from that, if I couldnt access my internet connection Id probably hang myself! :-|

Actually, Id just knock at my neighbours house and ask them for the KEY for their wireless! I'm sure theyd be happy to oblige!

You have to ask help from your internet provider.

Some people can get really desperate when it comes to wi-fi access. I have some neighbors living close to me who are a little computer illiterate, and they left their Linksys router open with no security enabled (this allows anyone to access their network if they're within range without needing a password).

Guess what happened?

One fine Sunday afternoon, some stranger accessed their router settings page and enabled WPA security on it, in addition to setting his very own password for it!

I had to be called in to reset the router and lock out the nasty idiot who decided to hijack it. If he had just logged in discreetly without changing the security settings on it, no one would have noticed...but he just had to be a smart alec about it!

Thanks for all the suggestions, my issue with finding an internet Cafe' is I have 2 kids aged 3 and 4 who around quite a bit, and I am recovering from constant Chemo therapy. So when I can not access my internet at home it is very inconveniant, and this 3g card is not reliable.

I have made sure I have enough info to write a number of articles while my internet is down.

But Yes I am becoming a serious internetholic withdrawel symptoms a plenty.

Better get another connection which would cost you only a few bucks!

Take a break clear your mind its amazing when you have time away from the computer how much time you have to think about new ideas for your business.
I have some great thoughts for my business why out taking my little boy for a walk around the river, this is actually when I get my best ideas.

Trust me it happens when we have heavy snow or rain sometimes it knocks off the internet which is a pain, gives me chance to catch up with paper work though as I still like to make myself useful.

If you are near a library or online cafe, I'd go there. Otherwise I'd take this as a sign and enjoy the outdoors for a couple days.

I was just like that for a few days: we moved to another province, ordered internet service but the new ISP sent the modem to wrong address. It took a few days for them to realize it and to re-send it to the right place.

As long as your not hosting your websites through the same internet connection it shouldn't have much of an impact other than customer service assuming you are only one doing that.

In my city we have tons of Free WIFI access available, two Malls, star bucks, grociery store's. I wouldn't suggest using unsecured neighbors wifi as they can trace that out and see what sites you go to if they have logging turned on in their router. If you go to sites you control or own they can find you, especially if they know you or where you live. Like next door.

If you have a friend, relative or access to free wifi close to you, shouldn't be much of an issue really. Other than you having to actually leave your house/apartment to go to the internet connection.

For me, it would probably be alot like being on vacation -- our summer vacations are spent on a remote island up north that doesn't even have adequate cell service, let alone wi-fi.

The first couple days I'd be going insane, the next couple days I'd be okay, but still jonesin' to get some connection, and after that (which this summer was 10 days) loving every minute of not feeling tied to the computer.

That said, if I was to lose my connection at home (like I did when my cable went out for 2 days), I'd probably hit the library (they have wi-fi, and the study corrals would make for more privacy and less distraction than the coffee shop).

I'll cry then go get a beer and watch TV

I will try my luck in library, cafes which provide free internet access, or cybercafe. But not to login to those sensitive websites as they might have keylogger to sniff our passwords.....

I have a Starbucks a few blocks away from my house that's kind of like my second office, so if my internet goes down I just head over there (assuming I'm not there already).

But if it's an extended outage, I would email any of my lists that might be trying to reach me for something important (buyers particularly, who might need customer service) and let them know my connection is spotty and I might take longer than normal to respond. Using the 3G connection, Starbucks or some other connection, even if I had to drive a ways to get it.

I would then queue up some broadcast emails to those same lists to be sent every 24 hours for the next x number of days, and segment them to only go to people who have joined the list in the last 24 hours. Again, letting new buyers know that I'm having connection problems.

Once the issues are fixed, I'd go in and delete any pending broadcasts.

Then I would just work on stuff that doesn't need an internet connection. Planning, writing, recording audio or video, etc.

Finally, I'd probably take more time to relax than I normally would

I think my favorite parts of the year is when the internet goes down. I usually briefly panic when it happens, but I force myself to go relax until I check again several hours later.

It's quite interesting to think about this- could help you plan for the "rainy day" when (or do I say IF) it eventually happens to you...

For me, when it happened, that provided some additional time to be with my wife and kids.... (It appears they'd wish for the connections to be disrupted more often!)

Definitely go down the pub one of the days and the other I would spend recovering from the previous day!

I reckon with the current dependance on technology, I won't be surprised if there some kind of Iphone or Internet treatment if there is ever a wide spread power cut in most major towns and cities

It amazes me that we have actually had it so little time and yet so many seem lost without it.
So little for my generation that is, the current generation has had it all their life and don't understand life without internet.

I go gem hunting and have a trip report for my readers (and some stuff
to sell) when I get home.

Grab some books and get further inspiration. Do some planning and thinking. Lay out your new ever so cunning strategy and when it's on again, just roll it all out

These days, the majority of my articles (except the on-site articles on my Adsense/Amazon sites, which are usually product-centric) are written based on research from books and other offline sources. So even if my 'net was down, I can still just about write my articles in order that I have something to publish as soon as it comes back up.

Luckily though, the last time our 'net went down was when I'd gone away for a couple of days and intended to stay off the computer anyway.

My new laptop has built-in WAN antennas, and pretty soon I will be adding the necessary internal 3G WAN card and subscribing to a 3G mobile broadband service, which I'll use both as a backup for my home 'net connection, and for when I'm travelling about.

and really... unless i was on vacation in some remote location, i could get connected if i needed to..

and if i was on vacation in some remote location, i probably wouldn't need it that much.

I would probably go on a wild but adventurous journey into my teenage sons bedroom and look for the other half of the dishes that are supposed to be in the cupboard.

if I absolutely needed the internet, then I'd go to a cybercafe, but if not, then I'd take it as a sign that I need to go out, since I'm on the net 6 days outta the week if not all 7

That would not be fun because I wouldn't be able to work. If I was stuck with no internet I would clean clean clean and organize!

If there is no internet for some days, then I will try to search if internet facility available to any cyber cafe or to my friend. If still no internet found then I will take rest to think about new business ideas and my current business position.

I'll go outside, have myself a beer, spend more time with my girlfriend and family, things like that....

Easy. If I didn't have internet I would spend some time doing other things like riding my four wheeler, visiting friends, spending time outside, etc.

I would use the local Library, because that is the way I developed a full time online income to begin with, when I had no puter, no car and no TV.

I would do what Im doing now sitting in an internet cafe because our internet is out till monday.... strange that you post this. What Im gonna do though is check my email and go back home and curl up with my family and rest nand watch some movies.... I work too hard. It was probably divine intervention!

One one occassion, i called another country and the emails were sent

I have two email addresses, The second password is known to a few other people, whom i trust.

If it is serious i can search the internet using my phone and someone else's computer.

The mail must get through and it does.

I need the trust and support of my client base. so they get service.

OK first I would go insane, then calm myself down. Then I would take that opportunity to do direct mailing (whenever the mail strike is over), do some walk-ins, even do some dreaded cold calling, and finally read some books that I have been meaning to read, and find internet cafes if I needed to do to the odd thing.

i cant live without internet..so i rhink if i dont have conections for a few days id rather go to net cafe...

I would take a vacation. Or go hiking, or do something else active that I normally don't do because I glue myself in front of the computer almost 16 hours a day.

Well not got time for me, but have to wait for everything is right otherwise we can't do anything.
