All:

I just got news today that Ryan T. (View Profile: RyanT) was involved in a bad car accident which was the result of a drunk driver hitting him.

I understand that Ryan is in the hospital and should make a recovery.

Please keep him in your thoughts and say a quick prayer if you can.

Thanks,

-Six

Sorry to hear that but glad to hear he will recover. This whole "tough on drunk driving" is bull.

First offense, suspended license for one year; second offense, five years and jail time; and third strike you're out - never be allowed to drive again and do at least a year in jail.

That would be tough on drunk driving.

Actually - that is the law, Tina...3 strikes and you are walkin'...once you get out of jail.

Ryan - glad to hear you are recovering. It sucks, but could have been so much worse. Please remember - speed only refers to automobiles, not recovery - put the pedal to the medal and get back in here!

3 strikes and you are walkin'
Sounds good but many keep driving anyway. Why do you get three chances to hurt people before you are "out"? Sad thing is drunk drivers usually hurt others instead of themselves.

Best to RyanT and hope he recovers quickly.

That depends on the state, Sal. I don't think losing your license is much of a deterrent for repeat offenders though. Every few weeks there seems to be an arrest for drunk driving where the driver has already lost his license. Now and then you'll see one that has been arrested 9-10 times or more.

Some don't learn until they hurt or kill someone, and even that doesn't deter some of them. I don't know what the answer is, but...

...hope you get well soon, Ryan.

Prayers to Ryan and his family...........keep us posted on his status

There is little that I abhor as much as I do idiots that get behind a wheel after drinking. It destroys so many lives with that stupid decision.

And, yes Kay, it seems the drunken idiot tends to walk away with little to no physical suffering. It's always the innocents doing the right thing that get hurt.

Hope our fellow warrior is well and recovering, glad it was not much worse for him.

    best,
    Andie

      Sal,

Unfortunately, that is not the law in all states. Each offense gets a longer suspension but I've never seen a permanent "no more driving for you" level. Up here, or at least in Maine, you can get away with drunk driving 7 times within a certain amount of time before being labeled a habitual offender. And even then, you can get your license back after a certain number of years.

They don't seem to get really tough until the drunk injures or kills someone. Maybe if they were tougher before that, some of these idiots would learn.

And instead of fines for driving after suspension, make it a freaking felony and toss their butts in jail.

I recently read of a drunk driving case here where the accused was sent to prison for one year and disqualified from driving for FORTY years. It was his second offence; he had been banned from driving for 10 years the first time round.
