Last saturday night(October23rd) a little after midnight I had finished everything I wanted to do so I got ready to bed.
A few minutes after getting in bed I had several things happen at once.
I got a migraine headache.I started feeling very weak.My chest started hurting, and I was having a very hard time getting my breathe.
I was home alone as the people that live with me,my wife, my daughter,my son in law and their 6 week old baby, had all gone ove to a friends house to watch a UFC event. I personally don't believe in supporting such events, so I didn't go.

I tried calling my wife on her cell 3 times and never got an answer.
I finally called the friends main number and she asnwered.I said "Get me my wife". She asked if everything was alright and I yelled at her "NO".

My wife got on the phone and asked what was wrong. I told her how I felt and that I needed to go to the ER. She wanted me to call 911 immediately, but I refused.I wanted her to come pick me up and take me.which is what she did.

She came and got me and took me to the hospital. One good thing is that the hospital is probably less than a mile and a half from our house. They immediately admitted me,with the symptoms I had they were thinking possible heart attack.

I have to admit I was not the calmest patient they had that night. I thought I was going to die. I had my wife call my brother, who lives almost 2 hours away from us to come, just in case.

It seems silly now, but when you are lying there and being given oxygen and are still gasping for air, it doesn't seem silly them.

Whilw performing tests it was determined on top of all the other things, I was severely anemic.

After determining I was stabilized they admitted me to the Critical Care Unit of the hospital.

It was at this time that my wife mentioned she had brought a laptop with her.
She always takes it with her because she is a big facebook fan and she loves to show off pictures of the grandchildren.

I had her give it to me and I made a post in a thread I had been promoting in the Off Topic Forum about a cause I fee very strongly about, a fundraising event for The National Kidney Foundation.
I said something to the effect that I wouldn't be harrassing the fine folks here for a few days as I had just been admitted to the hospital.
Its intent was to let those that are used to seeing me here everyday know why they wouldn't for a few days. Instead a miracle happened, but I will go more into that in a minute.

As far as my health, there were several issues.
Turns out I had fluid buildup in my lungs, which was making it hard for me to breathe.
That was also what was causing my chest to hurt when I breathed, and they feel it contributed to my BP being out of control and sky high.
There is no polite way that I can think of to say this(maybe I will think of one later and come back and edit this) but I was also bleeding from my lower region, which they thought was the cause of me being anemic.

I'm going to skip a lot of details, but I was finally released from the hospital Yesterday,October 27th about 4pm.

During that time I was given almost every test imaginable.
I had dialysis treatment every day.I was given two blood transfusions.
I had the procedure that every adult over 50 does NOT want to have but it was necessary.

While the drs never came to a real conclusion as to what caused my problems, they did feel that I was well enough to go home again.

BUT

That is all really background.
I hope Allen Says will forgive me here, but I feel what happened after I made that post is a miracle.

Some of my warrior friends took up the banner for me and ran with it.And they spread the word to the other parts of the forum and to other warriors,a lot of whom I don't know.

And the power of The Warriors and The Warrior Forum made a miracle happen.
I admit I have changed my Kidney Walk Goal several times ,but I was hoping to get a grand or two.

As it is, The Warrior Forum and Warriors hvae pushed me to the top.
I am currretly the number one fundraiser for this years Kidney Walk in Richmond Va. It happened so fast that the co-ordinatior called my house and left a message wanting to know what was going on.
She was especially surprised to hear I called her back from my hospital bed!

I am not good at saying some things.but when I saw how a core group of people here in the OT forum took up the banner for me and got other Warriors and their friends involved I have a confession.

I cried. Literally. And again, I hope Allen forgives me in this post, but I felt several miracles had happened to me.

Someone mentioned the fact that since my goal had been met that maybe I needed some assistance too. I try to not talk alot about that, though I am always willing to share about my illness, but I have had to declare bankruptcy twice in the past few years and about 6 months ago my car was repoed.

The fact is, a LOT of Warriors that I have never met came though again and my PayPal account which is usually sitting at $5 or $10 actiually has triple digits in it,the first time in years.

I am in total awe of the outpouring the people of The Warriors Forum has shown to me and would like to say God Bless You All.

Kim!!!!!! Damn...you're a sight for sore eyes.

Okay, what group sang "Dancing On Ice" from the late 70s?

Hint: You've seen them many times throughout the years.

Damn it's good to have you back!

Don't you scare us like that again...you hear me?

Gosh darn it Steve, you could have given me an easy one to start off with! Honestly, it sounds like an Air Supply song title, but I don't think that's it.

I hadn't mentioned it to him but...I was probably 15 minutes from him a couple days ago. I hadn't been online and didn't know he was in the hospital till I got back home.

          Kim,

I'm glad you're back and out of the hospital.

You gave us all quite a scare, but watching how everyone came together on your behalf was truly inspiring. And seeing Allen's generousity in full force was beyond anything I've seen on any forum. There's no words to describe it that do him justice. I'm just glad I got to witness it.

          To the future,

Really pleased to see you back with us on the forum.

I read your blog Maj's Kidney which Patrician kindly put the link to and my heart goes out to you.

When your health starts to play you around, just about everything else pales into insignificance.

    Kim,

I'm sure Allen would forgive you. HECK, he donated SO much! And good call on the 911 deal. That could have taken 20-25 minutes just to get you set to go. If your friend was close. you could have gotten there quicker. And the ambulance likely costs a LOT! Glad to see you BACK!

And YEAH, NEVER be calm in such a case! HECK, I needed to have a blood test ASAP, decided to do it this morning. THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE ORDER! MAN was I mad. They even suggested doing tests I knew I needed, and doing the rest later when the order comes in, FROM A DIFFERENT DRAW! GEE, they might as well do them all from a different person. Besides, it is the relationship between certain tests that is important, not the tests themselves. And they are LICENSED!?!?!? So I lost a day. What if I miss my window by a mere DAY!?!?

Anyway, be quiet and nice, and you could end up like John Ritter! HE, thinking he was OK, let far less urgent cases go ahead of him while the hospital, ASSUMING HEART ATTACK, filled him with poison that killed him! It might have been OK for myocardial infarction, but was NOT ok for his dissected aorta. YEP, he had the SAME problem I had!

Welcome back. It's about time you stopped that stupidity. When you have kidney failure it's no damned time to experiment with understanding asthma better.

Miracles do happen. Maybe it's time you learned that - since you are going to be a survivor, you need to understand miracles. Don't ever let a doctor tell you there is no hope.

My thanks go to Allen, also. With every effort some of us made - we could not have gotten the word around so quickly or so completely without his help. We could not have met your goal without his generosity. I don't know why you apologize to him, Kim. I'm sure Allen is fully aware of miracles. His generosity kinda points to the fact he knows all about them and I doubt he's adverse to hearing them called such.

Over the last few days, I have been deluged with PM's. People were worried they weren't giving enough - even though their own means are severely limited. They wanted to know what else to do, or needed help to find the right links, etc, etc. They expressed surprise about your condition, which was not so generally known. They have told me to keep them in mind if something more needs to be done or asked what more they can do now. And ALL had a very strong wish for you to recover and to let you know they are pulling for you.

And this is the message that you can take from it, Kim -- nothing is impossible. Never let anyone tell you that you are done. You aren't done until YOU are done. You are never without hope until you stop having faith. If someone tells you that you are out of hope -- it's not you that is out of hope, it is they who are puzzled of where else to turn next.

Believe Kim. ALWAYS believe. You CAN beat this thing.

    OK! Kim!

So glad you are 'front and center'.

'God Works in Mysterious Ways' and KJ is right

"Pretty cool how that worked out, huh "

Nothing like a crisis to 'KICK OUT THE JAMS' and get people's attention!

The thing that really gets me especially now that I learned the timing of this last catastrophy just now:

I had said to someone privately (of course I was thinking like you (is this 'the big one'? - is this the final bummer? will he make it (OMG)?)

...and I said "wow, the last time I PM'd him (Monday) he was consoling me on my 'little' emergency I had Saturday" (= what a friend)

    ... and then this.

Well now I know you must have been writing from the ICU?!? You never mentioned it and only empathized with me from right in the middle of the torture chamber! ( = what a friend)

I am so glad you are back and on the mend and I hope this will be a turning point and that Kim's New Kidney is somewhere on its precious way 2 U.

I know this is the ultimate donation you need and the GOAL beyond the walk and paying the freaking utility company.

It's a battle that I am sure you can and will win. Good luck for everything you are doing and you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

      lol. (you don't know Kurt.)

Besides, where is that boy? Last I heard he was still wrestliing with
his conscience, and losing. But he was dealing with the BSOD, so
maybe he finally gave up and set himself on fire.

    hello kim,

I also didnt know you before but in a post I mentioned something about Quantum Healing and that everyone should participate in it. Its really something very easy but very powerful and everyone can do it within 3-5 minutes!

I read a book about it and there was the talk of being able to heal even cancer! So, kidney issues shouldnt be a problem either, if God wills.

It works from any distance but maybe it would be nice if your wife could do it for you by simply touching you with her palm.

And it could even work for anything you like, not only health!!!

      Hello Kim,

Unfortunately, we don't know each other more closely. Therefore, allow me to say a warm welcome back from the critical care. If you already have an accurate diagnosis, then the solution is closer. Hang in there!

For me, it was a heart-warming feeling to experience the alliance of the community, as everyone wanted to help somehow. In such case, one might think that what a good feeling is to belong to a helpful community.

I thank all those who have once again demonstrated that the WF is the first in every respect.

Kim, have a good time with your family.

      All the best,

      Sandor

        Heya Kim!

It's so good to hear you are back home.
I've been away from WF for several weeks (keeping nose to grindstone ... that's my story anyhow!) and just read all the threads concerning your little adventure.

I'm so sorry you had to experience all that and hope you are on the mend!

Take all the time you need to heal - we'll be here waiting for you!

Great to hear that you're out of hospital, even if all isn't yet well, and that the fundraiser worked so well. I really believe in the power of the WF.

I would suggest if it is possible, Kim do some meditations, pranayama and yoga.

I wish you are restored to good health asap.

Have you heard of the Art Of Living foundation Kim?

You'll be back to normal life very quickly if you practice what they teach at the Art Of Living Los Angeles | Art of Living Foundation, USA.

When I heard about you in the hospital here, I was like WOW! these guys at WF are really very compassionate souls too and they serve an ALERT when someone is in the hospital. WOW! YOU guys are really great.
