What's your favorite chainsaw and why? Do you have different favorite brands depending on the type of cutting needing done?
  • Profile picture of the author KenThompson
    Wanna good chainsaw story? Ok..

A B52 crashed on final during a blizzard. Landed right in the trees,
    all six crewmen died.

I was 'volunteered' to help with the crash cleanup. Talk about a big
    mess.

Well, there was a guy who was cutting off the vertical stabilizer. Have
any idea how big and tall a vertical stabilizer is on a B52? Big.

He was using a huge chainsaw that was strapped on him. That thing
was huge - the chainsaw. Well... the chain broke on it, and it flew
back and hit him in the face. I saw it happen. Just turned in that
direction the moment before it happened and saw it.

F'd that guy ALL up. His face was a bloody, broken mess.

Ken there's no doubt that using a chainsaw can be a very dangerous task. That would have been pretty gruesome to see indeed. Chain breaks causing major injury can be prevented by wearing the proper safety gear which is often neglected when people are cutting.

A pro forest helmet and chainsaw chaps and coat made from kevlar as well as chainsaw gloves should be worn even if you are doing very simple cuts such as limbing on low easily reached branches.

I told my dad once that I was going to wear steel-toed boots to cut wood.

He advised against it -- he said it would make make the chainsaw blade too dull to be of any use.

    Cheers,
    Becky

Playing Along? Why mock me,is this not an off topic thread? Is not the purpose of everyone being on a forum to promote themselves in some way, shape or form?

By the way it's a subject that interests me to find out people's opinions about different chainsaw brands!

Ben, hi. I was a logger in my younger days. Quit a while back however. I used a McCullough with a 36" bar ( I cut 'big' trees) and I had very good luck with it. When
I moved to Washington state and started cutting smaller trees I switched to a smaller chainsaw with a 24" bar on it (Can't remember how to spell it but it was pronounced "Skill"), anyway that was also a good saw.
As I said that was a few years back.
              Good luck with your search.

Thanks Phil for the input. I have heard good things about McCullough though I have never had the chance to use one. 36" bar that's a beast of a chainsaw!

In this forum, the off topic section is like the bar. We're talking - not promoting ourseles.

Promotion is normal - but when you are new and unknown here and your first effort is "look at my chainsaw site"....well....

Being told this is not a good idea is more valuable than you know. Posts like that in the main forum are considered self promotional and can get you banned. Just a word to the wise.

My favorite part of a chain saw is the muscular guy that uses one to trim my oak trees

Well now that we've gotten to the root of the problem, perhaps we should nip it in the bud before it blossoms. The OP leaves and everything gets colored and falls apart.

She'll spend more than yew make and yew willow money to plum near everyone. Ain't tryin' to pecan ya, but that girl yew got eyes fir, I cedar kissin' on another feller and she didn't ask persimmon to kiss him, she just up and done it on impulse. So git spruced up if'n yew must, make a durn fool of yerself, but even a dogwood know better.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
