But in the USA just about anyone can be on the internet. I can't claim superior knowledge about india, but it seems like, for whatever reason, MOST people in india may NOT be able to.

And then there IS the ability to understand the site, want to buy the product, and the ability to afford it.

In other words, I bet if you had a FANTASTIC site that got ALL viewers to want to buy, and showed it to all in the US and india that have been on the internet, I bet the US would STILL give you more customers! India is only 61% literate, which generally means that only 61% can read/write at least ONE language of about 30, which includes English. So the english literacy rate is lower, probably FAR lower, than 61%. Hindi is the most widely spoken language, which probably means that many don't speak english, since it can be basically either or. If you know hindi, you can actually communicate with more people in india, and the government, than you can with English. The CIA fact book indicates that 81 million use the internet in India. By comparison, over 231million in the US do. 298 million in china do. Japan is third with almost 91 million. So hindi IS a popular language, and in some cases ranks above english in popularity, but, on the net, it seems india is a distant fourth, out of 216 countries listed.

Granted the CIA is not the BEST source for this sort of thing, but it is in line with a lot you see and hear about india. HEY, germany comes in SIXTH with about 62 million.

This usually means you need to get better rankings in the US, are you optimising product related keywords?

For a lot of products, setting your country to US in Webmaster Tools solves this issue, otherwise countries outside of the US generally have less competition.

For instance if you host your site in the US and are targetting the UK, by your IP Google will assume you are US.

Google algo tries to show more UK sites in the UK for specific keywords like, buy digital camera, online camera store and so on.

It's neat only if you're specifically targeting Indian
people. What sucks is that most Indians have no
money to spend on your products and services so
in a way, it's a waste of bandwidth.
