Looking for on line technical help forum

My Western Digital external HD cannot be found on WindowsXP. I think this may have something to do with the SP3 upgrade. Not sure of that though.

Do you have a forum recommendation where hardware issues are discussed?

    I get that problem sometimes with SP2.
    I just unplug the external drive from the computer and power source and plug them back in.
    That works for me anyways.

    Try unplugging the device and plugging it back in for starters. Usually there would be a sound if it was detected by the system. Try checking device manager. Check if there is an unknown device listed as well.

    Both good answers, but more info is needed. DId the drive work in the past and just stop working? Or is it a new drive your trying to hookup.
    Have you made any other changes? Do you know how to check the device manager as Jimbo suggested?
    I would unplug the device. I would then restart int computer in safe mode and check the device manager, then do a shut down and restart in regular mode.
    After you restart in regular mode, then I would plug in the external drive,and see if the OS installs it.
    The majority of the time this simple procedure will get that external drive working in no time.
