Well that sucks for sure as raging wildfires always do. Am I wrong or isn't it a little late in the season?

I hope not too many people lose their homes. I would be inclined to be most concerned about wildlife and people than I would some gigabillionaire's theme park.

    They will rebuild...

the Sylmar fire has claimed over 500 mobile type homes and the fire in the Anaheim hills is claiming houses like crazy since there is no water pressure for the fireman to use the fire hydrants so they are filling their trucks at the bottom of the hill then driving back up, spend the water and drive back down for a fill up.

It does seem late to be for the fire season but random stuff happens at random times in California!

Well I wouldn't say it's that late in the season as we were evacuated last year on Oct. 23rd and the fires lasted for about 2 weeks in different areas. Unfortunately we are still well within the range of fire season.

Oh I would also think the major theme parks would be Disney Land and Knott Berry Farm and not Six Flags because we are 10 min away from there and so far we don't have any fires in our area.

Well I hope you are all safe down there. I am in the North - it's very windy and so I can just imagine what it is like in the South and I think that is how the fires always get so out of hand down there.

It's bad about the homes, and it hurts to think about a single tree burning, let alone thousands of acres.

I hope they get a handle on it all soon. Keep us informed.

God bless you all and keep you safe.

Well its certainly a worrying tome for folks with homes there.

On the other hand, a few weeks ago I watched a US documentary
about managing national parks, forests etc. In areas where they
have very rapid and effective fire responses over the years, the
forests actually degraded. It turned out that naturally arising fires
from lightning etc actually rejuvenate forests by clearing the
ground cover and kickstarting the germination of tree seeds.
Not too sure whether Nature factored in arsonists and broken
bottles in the overall scheme of things.

Must admit climate change seems to have hugely exaggerated
the scale and ferocity of the fires in recent years. Not much
consolation when your house is in flames

I'm in Long Beach, Ca which is not too far away. I doubt we see any fires here though.

Unfortunately, I get to breathe in all of the smoke and ash from the fires. There's an unbelievable and massive smoke cloud that has filled the sky here.

        It's awful!

        It's also amazing!

At some point global warming is going to have to be taken more serious.

I'm in Brea and the hill behind me (about 3 streets) is charred. It's been a strange day watching the fired and having no control over where it goes. I took some pictures and posted them online.

THis morning the entire house, car and drive way where covered in ash. For a minute there I thought someone spray painted my car overnight. Then I took out the leave blower and blew it all away onto the neighbor across the street
