An 18lb weight frozen family sized turkey now costs £40/$60
You want something fresh, organic, ready basted or whatever
and the price goes higher.

Price of feed, energy/fuel costs, transportation yada yada yada.

Perhaps if they and their food were not transported around the
world .... things would be somewhat cheaper.

The economics of intensive large scale farming and distribution
seem to have failed big time. There seems to be an emerging
trend towards "old-fashioned" smaller organic farms which
have cattle, poultry, cereals and fruit as this provides a high
degree of self-sufficiency with rather lower costs.

Lol, at this rate our local farm shop will need bigger premises.

    Are you serious?

Our local store is running a special - 49 cents a pound. If you buy for a certain number of weeks at their store, you get it free.

Do you all import your Turkey's from us Mike?
I know Turkeys are native to North America.
Wild Turkeys around here are becoming a nuisance.
We have a fall and spring hunting season and with over
50,000 birds taken each year (state wide) the population is still getting out of control.

The UK raises some poultry itself and imports loads from Europe,
and the Far East. Turkeys are soooooo expensive here that even
the supermarkets stock bits/joints of Turkey in an attempt to
sell some turkey products at all. Mind you, the end price might
be cheaper, but the price per lb/kg goes up massively. Its all
        one big ripoff ...period.

Just like Nichola, we will be having some nice locally raised Angus
beef from the farmshop ... plus some of their nice sausages and
a frozen leg of lamb from New Zealand .... just like the last
couple of Xmases (stuff the turkey lol)

I have a farm down the road from me that raises, butchers, and sells Angus Beef. That's where I usually head for my Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner main course. If I want Turkey that bad I can just wander into the woods at the end of my road and shoot one.

This is the main reason that I don't have turkey for Christmas dinner! Have a nice joint of beef instead!

That's not why I don't have Turkey, but I'm with ya on the nice joint of beef.
I just got back from the store and right now Butterball Turkey's are $1.19 a pound.

That's a very good reason to become a vegetarian!! No high meat prices. Meat is sooooo expensive cause it costs so much for the animals, the food to grow to feed 'em, the slaughter and cleaning and all that. Time to look into becoming a vegetarian. I was thinking about getting a pet turkey though, there's an ad in the paper But I don't have enough room.

But meat eaters are part solution to global warming by eating the animals that create the gases.
Vegetarians are part of the problem by eating the plants that clean the air
