I thought some Warriors might be interested in seeing this: Free Kareem!

It's about an Egyptian student who was sentenced to four years in prison for "contempt of religion," among other things. His prison sentence ended about a week ago, but instead of being released he is now being beaten and held illegally at the State Security Intelligence (SSI) headquarters in Alexandria.

Unbelievable.

He is not the first person to be incarcerated for criticizing the Egyptian leader.

We don't agree with that lack of freedom of speech - but if you live in a country where you know there are consequences for criticizing the religion and the leader, you know what can happen.

CNN picked up the story again last week and bloggers and rights groups are demanding his release. I wonder if that complicates the issue as the louder the demands become, perhaps the less likely his jailers will be to release him and be seen as caving to demands.

I don't know what he wrote- but it was serious enough that he was kicked out of the school where he studied law and that happened before he was arrested. Sometimes freedom of speech carries a high price.
