The oil isn't gone - but we've been saying that

Red shrimp season is open and to allow the season NOAH opened more waters in the Gulf last week (these had been closed since the spill).

Red shrimp don't breed close to the shore like other varieties - but are found in deeper water. Big haul pulled up yesterday 40 miles north of the oil spill location - the shrimp were covered with oi.

Meanwhile - all the casino businesses on the coast have been told they will NOT be reimbursed for business lost in the oil spill. Casino employees are not just dealers and slot persons but also hotel and restaurant, maintenance, etc and they have also be declined for any payment. Those casino employees who submitted claims for restaurant or hotel jobs but did not mention the casino part of the business - got checks from Feinberg.

Guess Feinberg gets to make value judgments as all of the casinos are at the water's edge and employees there lost just as workers on the coast.

But now Feinberg is offering more money to some sleected businesses - if they will agree not to sue BP. This fund is turning into another "feel good" announcement where leaders can say "look what I made BP do" and then ignore the problem. NOAH headed out to the area today to "look for a slick" - but the oil on the shrimp was at 1300 foot depths, not on the surface.

By the way Feinberg and four other lawyers at his firm are being paid by BP to "administer the fund" - Feinberg, et al, are paid $850,000 a month. Gee - wonder why it's taking so long? Feinberg didn't want the information released - but it got released anyway.

As of Nov. 18, the BP claims fund made $1.88 billion of emergency payments to 86,728 individuals and 31,271 businesses. Feinberg and his team have rejected 56,197 claims. Feinberg received a total of 400,516 of damage claims, but only 8,055 of them were for final settlements.

Isn't it usually the lawyers that end up with the bulk of the money?

GREAT! I didn't ever trust him. And BP should NOT pay him to administer the fund. It is basically ILLEGAL! They are stealing from a settlement fund, and allowing only SOME to join a class of sorts. So the OTHERS now represent another class that have a right to sue, etc.... They have paid taxes to SUPPORT those buffoons but now must pay MORE for a lawyer and have a FAR smaller pool to benefit from.

What they SHOULD do is take maybe 20% of the money and set it aside for future awards, and distribute the rest evenly among ALL of the states based on the average if a few years prior compared the period after, assuming they are employed at the same job they had. After all, EVERYONE is affected! A tire dealer may lose business because fewer people pass it to go to the restaurant to eat fish. They may lose money because a fish store owner drives tires longer because THEY didn't get money. Etc...

BTW the dispersant causes oil to be suspended IN the water! WHY can't people undestand that!?!?

Why would anyone believe it's gone when there is still oil evident in Alaska 20 years after Valdez?

Kay here's a copy of the email I just sent to the White House.
Well they are still finding oil in the gulf.
The red shrimp season has just started and they are pulling up oil covered shrimp.
Feinberg isn't paying all the claims that he should be paying. By the way Feinberg and four other lawyers at his firm are being paid by BP to "administer the fund" - Feinberg, et al, are paid $850,000 a month.

Oh, you'll get a "reply". Only you won't see it.

        It's called an FBI file

My cousin used to write letters to the governor of New York (Mario Cuomo days) - never threatening. Just critical of his policies, etc. He got a file too.

Mike at my age, it's way past just a file

I meet Mario at Samaritan Hospital in Troy once.
I never liked him as a politician, but as a person he seemed like a nice guy.

I think I know where you would be going with that
Problem there is I would be lying and I have issues with that, even when dealing with liar's.

Maybe you don't know where I am going. Oh well, if you have THAT atttitude, I guess you WOULD have to try lying, because you don't meet the qualifications that would get a reply. BTW That isn't a vieled insult, I don't meet them either.

That's a good possibility Steve, hell most times I don't know where I'm going till I get there
I never saw what you said as an insult, veiled or otherwise.
When it comes to getting reply's for the govt., I'd rather not meet the qualifications.

As a side note, for some reason many of my friends think I ought to run for public office. They say I should run on the common sense and logic platform

You may not ever win. It is HARD for an honest person to beat the lies of others. Like one person that I said should be sent back to kindergarten. He claimed he would lower taxes, raise entitlements, create new entitlements, AND lower the deficit. 8-( Gee, one is tempted to almost say they will donate a trillion to the treasury, create zero unemployment, lower taxes, get rid of ANY debt, etc.... Yeah, it is impossible but, if nobody will honor them ANYWAY....

To me, showing the difference in income between the 4 months of the previous year and the 4 months of the oil spill should be documentation enough.

When I saw how much info about me was required I said "forget it". There's nothing to hide - but my full financial info is not BP or Feinberg's business and if I don't protect my privacy, who will?

Income from jobs here was already down due to the economy for two years before the spill. I work VERY part-time - one or two days a weekend but even so I lost about $4-500 a month for at least 4 months.

The sad part is with $20 billion there is enough money to provide a generous $5-10k to employees on the coast who lost income - and that would still leave a huge amount of money to allocate to businesses who applied for relief. This is just same old response - different crisis -...poor leadership, bad management and idiocy.

            Newsflash! This is FUNNY !!!

Just heard our official response to the North Korean shooting attack that happened today. The official statement from our govt - "The actions of North Korea are very, very bad". Yep - apparently that is really what "we" said.

Looks like NK will get a time out, doesn't it?

Technically, it is ILLEGAL, based on a law that was created in the 80s as I recall. They are supposed to ask ONLY for needed information. In this case that means like you SSN, address, proof of income, current position, but NOT how much you have, where you have it, birth date, etc... The law was put into place to PROTECT PRIVACY!

Yeah, but BP wasn't responsible for the bad economy. Sad, but true.

Well, the US has FAILED MISERABLY for SO long at protecting US secrets, etc... that China and NK have become BEHEMOTHS! They are like bullies with guns in a park. You may be BIGGER, STRONGER, FASTER, and better in EVERY way than they are, but you STILL have to be "diplomatic", or they may start shooting. NK and china are seen as smarter than IRAN or IRAQ, but not THAT much smarter. HECK, RUSSIA seems like a better bet, for sanity, than any of those I named.

BTW I recently heard that IDIOT Feinstein on PRI(Public Radio International). He said that he has been VERY successful, etc.... You know what he used as proof? He spoke of the BILLIONS he paid out, and the 100s of thousands he paid it to. Well HELL, give me $100Billion and I bet I could get MORE money to MORE people than he did QUICKER than he did! HELL, I might be able to get it to the RIGHT people. HE never said he got it to the RIGHT people.

But his comments go to show how he thinks.
