Is web TV a practical reality yet or is it still just hype? I've been seeing the promises for a long time now but so far I've found nothing that really lives up to it.

I'm in an area with no English-language TV and even satellite TV is difficult. But I've got a very fast broadband connection so Internet TV would be ideal.

Got any leads for me?

Thanks!

I don't know if you can access it from where you are, but Australia's ABC has an excellent service called iView.

It offers a range of programs (comedy, news, drama, etc.) including many BBC shows.

Of course it may only be accessible to Australians, not sure.

Perhaps the BBC has something similar.

Other than that, I guess a Google search will answer that for you.

I haven't found a good all-encompassing internet TV solution yet, but these days many networks rerun episodes of their shows on their websites. Try going to abc.com, cbs.com, nbc.com, fox.com, and so on. It's a start, anyway.

Currently pure Internet TV is limited based on availability of cable / broadband speeds.

You will see a lot more about this service over the next couple of years.

May be hype now - but it will be reality very soon.

I've found a pretty decent solution: BBC I-Player. It offers nearly all the BBC line-up, just one day after the original broadcast. This is similar to the services some of you have been recommending above.

ITV, another British broadcaster has a similar service. In some ways this is even better than TV because you can choose what and when to watch. Of course if you want instant notification of when the two Koreas go to war it will be all over by the time you get the news. Other than that, it's great.

You do need a fast connection. I've got 6 MB (claimed). It's nowhere near that fast but it's still pretty good. Even with that, the signal gets interrupted now and then.

For those who may be interested, most of these services block anyone from outside the host country. But this is easily resolved using a proxy. Youtube has some videos on setting it up.

This will do until real WebTV comes along!

I am very intersted in watching TV online.. Let me know if you do find any good WebTV site. It would be cool to see this type of service for the next couple of years.

I'm getting ready to buy the boxee - can't wait to get it. I'll be able to watch most of the TV shows I like on it.
