People Posting With Links In Sig For Link Juice, Rampant!

How many posts do you have to have to be able to have a link in your sig file?

Reason I ask, is that so many people lately are spamming the forums with links to professional websites in their signature area, and they only have very, very few posts.

Did something change in the rules?

You don't even need to have any posts as far as I know... Maybe I'm a bit out of the loop though.

There is no minimum post count. I view "do-follow" signature links as a sort of game. Once the IM/SEO community finds out that a certain forum is allowing "do-follow" signature links, they all post to it to get some link juice. Often times these forums get incredibly spammed, especially when there are few/poor moderators, and then people stop posting to the forum (at least the smart ones). Then they find out about another "do-follow" forum... The cycle isn't that fast with forums but its extremely fast with blogs.

As far as I know, you can start using your sig as soon as you register at the forum.

What do you mean by "professional websites"? As far as the rules go, the main thing is it's supposed to be the Warrior's own site. Affiliate link redirects to other people's sales pages is not allowed.

I think he may be referring to those who max out their sig and have tons of links formatted like so:

Water Bottle | How to Laugh | Make Bread | How to Raise Kids | Parenting 101 | Life Insurance | Rent Money

I've seen a few people just stuff in a load of these links. One guy had at least 20 of them at one point, but it is what it is.

No issue at all........... just talking about the one liners, who come here and post something that adds no value at all, then have links to websites in their signature.

Its obvious to anyone who cares or is looking that the main reason they are posting is to get a link to their site on the forum.

So, again no issue, as in me having a problem if thats what you are inferring, just an honest observance and question.....

Nothing new about that... it's possible that it's happening more often recently, but it's hard to tell.

If you think someone is abusing the forum to raise their post count quickly or to get sig exposure, just use the Report Post button. It definitely helps. The mods can't possibly police every thread on the forum 24/7 -- they depend on members reporting things when they see them.

Lol, that's what I have been doing, I feel like a police man..........

I feel obligated to do it, and when I see it, I just report it, but I have noticed it getting more and more frequent.......

Also, I thought that you had to have a minimum number of posts to even have a sig link, it seems thats the way it was when I signed up, last year, I could be wrong.

But I think its definately a great idea to have a minimum amount of posts before you can have a sig link, just like its done with PM's.

There have been a lot over the last couple of days, I agree.

There've been a few new members all of whose posts were either blatant spam or three/four-word posts to inflate their post-count. I've "reported" several earlier today, but I think they're probably all gone now, and the traces removed. The Moderators do an amazing job.

He just didn't like the fact that many people just joined for the sole purpose of leaving links. Its understandable I guess lol

What do you mean spamming the forum? You mean participating and posting? Newbies are allowed to have a signature file as far as I know and posting is not spamming if they are participating. If it's spam, report it as such.

Agreed, If you see someone promoting an affiliate link or posting one liners
then report the post so to make in noticable for the Mods to review.

Last time I checked there were over 240K mods here. If more than a few flag
the post then it will vanish into and area where the Mods with the power can
      deal with it. Just saying.

      Have a Great Day!

It seems that spammers who don't know the rules post waaaaay off-topic threads in the Off Topic forum in hopes of increasing their post count. I'm assuming they get surprised when, after the first five threads, their post count still reads zero.

I remember having to post quite a few times without my sig when I first started. That was about a year ago.

It's a crying shame that there are these so called spammers and yes they are becoming ever more prominent. Its a shame that they cannot contribute anything decent to the forums as they in a small way devalue what a forums all about but i think the mods on here do a fantastic job of policing this forum and long may it continue.
