You would think this came out of South America, India, or Texas.
But no, a guy in Brittan developed it.
According to the article it measures 1,359,000 on the Scovillle scale, where most Jalapeno's are in the 2,500 to 5,000 range.

Here's a video of a guy from the Clifton Chili Club trying one.
You can see the pain set in around 2:00 in.

I can understand adding some spice to food, but I don't understand when they take it to the painful stage to show their buddies how tough they are.

I've got a bottle of Dave's ultimate insanity sauce in my fridge, it has a health warning on the side and has been banned from the National Fiery Show. It's so hot one drop will turn a sweet and sour dish into a vindaloo! I very rarely use it and only bought it to prove a point to someone I know who bragged that no dish is to hot for him.

The thing I've always found curious is that the hottest, spiciest foods come from the hottest parts of the planet.

Wouldn't it make more sense if curry/chilli originated in Iceland, northern Canada or Siberia?

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

Chilis are really good for you, but you can only get something so hot before it can cause internal damage. I like hot food, even the stuff that makes your eyes water and sinuses clear - but if it actually feels like I'm putting acid on my tongue to eat it things have gone a little far. Once I had some Chinese mustard that was so hot that even just a drop sized dab made my mouth feel like it was blistering. I'm not sure what the motivation for putting something that much like sulfuric acid in your mouth would be, but I'm not going to use my mouth and digestive tract to figure it out!

Spices are additive indeed. But to a point where you eat just to bring pain to yourself that I can never understand. I have joined chili-eating contest before for money but I'd never do it just for fun, especially for something to that scale

lol maybe not as strong but I did buy a bottle of Blair's Mega Death Sauce and its rated at 550 000 scoville units (550 times a jalapeno chili). All I can tell you is that yes, its REAL hot!
