Creating .gif images with alternating text using photoshop

I'm getting into photoshop now and learning how to create graphics and such.

I'm looking for a solid tutorial or some quick advice from anyone regarding how to create banners with changing text using Photoshop.

Basically I want to create a handful of graphic banners with a section of text that flashes or something. Like maybe the 'click here' button flashes every 2 seconds or so.

Advice, suggestions, tutorials, guidance, anyone?

    Hi Adam,

I use an old version of Photoshop Elements, so it may have changed, but hopefully this will point you in the right direction.

If I remember correctly, each visual layer becomes a frame. Select "Save For Web" in the File menu. Then when you get to the screen, select GIF, and look for a box that says animate.

    Hope that helps.

    All the best,
    Michael

I shall try that and see how it goes...I'm using cs4, hopefully that will still be about the same process.

    Hi Adam,

I ran over to Google, and found this...

This should get you going in the right direction.

Adam, unless something has changed that I'm not aware of, a GIF image can only have 256 colors. If you reduce your starting image to 256 colors before creating the subsequent frames you should have less dithering -- in other words, the end result will look better.

Awesome, mission accomplished! Thanks for the help.

It's kind of funky but I found that under the 'window' tab you can select 'animation' from the drop down menu. From there you control what layers show up when during the loop.

So I'd make one 'click here' button with a red background, and another 'click here' button with a yellow background on another layer. Then I alternate displaying the first, and second 'click here' buttons to create the flashing effect I was looking for.

Photoshop is wicked cool! I'm just learning how to use it now, creating some banners and stuff for a product.
