BLUE ORB - Unexplained Phenomenom

STATUS: UNEXPLAINED!

Ever had one of those "Uhh ... WTF!??" moments?

One happened to me last night and today as well, until
a plausible explanation is put forth I won`t simply think
"it`s just the camera" ... and if you comment in this thread,
please don`t scoff it off or laugh or discount it unless you can
put a reasonable, believable explanation down

... tanx!

Nothing special about the day (22-11-2008) ... I was out taking sunset
photos as I do quite often ....... the third image though sure shook the
braincells as did the fourth image when I downloaded it then viewed it
today (23-11-2008)

I did not notice the Blue Orb when I took the photo ... when the preview
came up a couple of seconds after taking the shot though I couldn`t miss it.

Image 1

I Immediately raised the camera back up and took another picture making
sure I had the treeline in view for reference ...... I was actually just trying
to point to roundabout where I thought I took the previous one but having
the treeline in view was on my mind ... lucky I went to the left abit I think.

Image 2

Blue Orb isn`t that easy to see but it`s there ... but to me, at least, I
can follow what I believe to be the "line of travel" from one image to the
next ... it just seems that the Blue Orb is perfectly proportioned for an
object moving away at speed from Image 1 to Image 2

See it? The time in between taking the 2 images was around 10 or
20 seconds maximum ... few seconds for the preview to show, couple
of seconds to react and point the camera back up and a couple more
to position before clicking. I couldn`t actually see anything there so I
wasn`t "aiming" at anything ... just hoping whatever was in Image 1
came up again.

To give reference points from Image 1
to Image 2 I have placed markers myself.

The point of the ARROW on the left hand side of the "Line Of Travel" is
approximately where the Blue Orb is positioned in relation to the cloud in
Image 2.

No cropping of either image so it cannot be "something on the lens".

So you can study this closely, you may view the Original Images also ... they are
full size, unaltered straight from the camera ... (2304x1728) and around 500 KB)

Could it be ball lightning? (quite possible) A UFO!?? Or simply the
camera chucking a wobbly ....... ....... I do not discount any
of these yet but it sure has my attention!

I have setup a page on one of my sites for this as I want some answers!
.. lol .. get`s a whole lot freakier yet to.

Scroll down to the bottom of the following page (after reading! ) and
explain just WTF ... Blue Orb and errrrmm Friends is all about!
The full size originals are just above that.

C`mon ... serious discussion only ... if it`s an effect simply from the
camera ... fine ... but I want the mechanics explained ... I want to
know HOW the camera creates this effect ... or whatever ... at this
moment ... to me ... it`s an unexplained phenomenom.

I don`t have an explanation ... Do You?

POSSIBLE EXPLANATIONS

Weather Balloon - Suggested by Mike Wright ...
quite possible ... waiting for info on prevailing conditions.

Dust - first thing I checked out and to me, unlikely ...
I`ve had plenty of the "dust orbs" before, looks and "acts"
unlike anything I`ve seen before ... looks like it is in the
clouds ... I certainly don`t discount this.
Orb (paranormal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Ball Lightning - possible due to the conditions that day
but unlikely ... very rare and said to stay close to the ground
News in Science - Ball lightning explained - 04/04/2002

U.F.O. - well technically this is what it is ... lol ..
unidentified, flying? and an object if any of the above
apply ... green men?? NAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

From a quick look at the big pics, I would guess
that its a weather balloon whizzing along in an
airstream around the same altitude as the clouds.
If it was one of the "whitish" or "silvery" ones, it
would tend to look a relevant sky colour(ish).
The first pic shows a beige orb with a blue halo
effect. The second pic shows an orb coloured
    more like the clouds..

I guess that it was reflecting twilight colours.
In an orange setting sun ...it may well have
    looked red or gold.

Try sending the pics off to MUFON or similar
    UFO places if unconvinced

      G`day Mike,

excellent suggestion mate, weather balloon isn`t something I
thought of and no ... not convinced it`s that straight up but
very plausible ... we`ve had some very weird weather most of
this week here in Queensland so I thought of ball lightning before
      anything.

Strange I could see no light source even where the clouds
couldn`t have covered it ... means little when considering
my eyes don`t record images digitally and the short time
      involved .. lol.

I`ll edit my post to include your suggestion and credit

I`m not convinced it`s a weather balloon straight up because
of prevailing conditions ... which could be checked and verified
to I hope. Of course someone may have let one loose because
of the prevailing conditions to!

Just from my experience with Australian weather, it`s not likely ...
of course the Orb may be "miles" in the air but then that begs the
question ... just how BIG is it then!?

The winds ... the wind at low and high level were from the west
... the Orb seems to move against and across that towards ssw
(south-south west) which is totally feasible. A strong low pressure
and upper level system progressed across the state that day with
gale force winds predicted late in the day.

The wind warning was cancelled after lunch with things clearing up,
it looked like the systems where "sucking" all weather west ... it had
a surreal feel about it which is why I was out taking pics ... surreal
as in strangely calm after all the chaos of the week.

Now it`d be kool to get back an email from the Bureau of Meteorology
saying a weather balloon went across this region from east to west
around that time on that day

      Christopher J.

P.S. I`ll be checking the "UFO sites" I guess ...
