One Man and His Dog Introduction

Thought I better drop in and introduce myself. And my dog. He and I go everywhere together. Including here on this forum.

My life long companion and best friend. His name is Greg. And yes, my real name is Lou Krapper. Don't laugh. I've been on the butt end of many jokes about it in the past.

I'm 68 years old and live in southern Ireland in a very small cottage on the side of a mountain overlooking the ocean.

Until 7 years ago I was a full time shepherd. A leg injury when climbing a stile one night with the rain pouring down and a bad gale put pay to my days gallavanting over the hills rounding up the sheep. Wondering what to do next I turned my hand to Internet marketing.

At the time when I first began I didn't even know how to switch a computer on. Now 7 years later I guess I'm a quiet entrepreneur raking in a small fortune each month. Not that I have any need for the money. What am I going to spend it on living here in the middle of nowhere? But it gives me a good feeling anyway.

My cottage is tiny. We're in the middle of nowhere. Just 3 rooms. Kitchen stroke parlour. A bedroom upstairs. And a living room with a table and a comfy chair next to my roaring peat log fire. It's very cosy.

Sometimes I get a little lonely. But then I gaze out of the window and realise all is good with the world. I have my radio. A battered old television set. An old iron kettle on the range in the kitchen. What more do I need?

On the odd occasion I do head into the nearest town 30 miles away I use my old 1961 Land Rover. She's my 'wife'. Well, as good as. Doesn't look particularly pretty but then she doesn't answer back like the real thing. My kind of woman. I'm a bit old fashioned I guess like that.

I'm a bit cranky and eccentric. You would be too if you lived my lifestyle. Quite often I talk to myself. Perhaps more accurately, I talk to my dog for company. Greg understands everything. Back in the day he was one of Ireland's top sheep dogs. Very smart indeed. Smarter than I am by a long shot.

You'll see me no doubt and Greg too on the forum. He doesn't bite. If you see him treat him kindly please. He appreciates a ruffle behind his left ear.

Come along Greg. Let's see what this place has on offer.

Lovely to meet you all and Merry Christmas!

That was one of the more interesting introductions I've ever read at this forum, or any other forum for that matter. You have some real writing talent, Lou.

Where you live sounds beautiful. My kind of view for sure, but I'd want a little more room. Need a place to hide from my wife, who is not my 1961 Land Rover.

    Welcome to the forum, Lou.

    Hi Lou,

Nice to see another Irish 'dog man' on here.

Lovely intro and welcome to the forum.

I hope the snow is not too bad where you are.

I am in Roscommon and have been snowed in and without water for nearly 3 weeks now!

Still, it could be worse - at least I have a roof over my head.

I hope you meet a lot of new friends here at WF.

I wish you and Greg a Happy Christmas and have a drop o' the 'black stuff' for me

Hi Lou, it's nice to meet you, and Greg. I own a sheepdog (Australian Working Kelpie), but he doesn't get to meet sheep very often though. I'd love to see a picture of Greg if you have one :-)

Welcome to the Forum Lou ! I enjoyed your writing. Have you considered freelance writing on places like Elance ? I also have a dog - a Greyhound Lab mix. Quite the girl at 1 1/2 years old. She definitely keeps me on my toes.

Hi Lou and Greg - welcome to the forum.

I look out my front window and see my beautiful roses, then I look a little further and see the traffic going back and forth - I would love to live in the country, but at the same time I don't know if I could live away from my family and the shops

Another dog lover here, I have the most gorgeous 4 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback called Griffin. Our last Ridgeback passed away earlier this year

Great to see you here and I'll be sure to give Greg a pat behind the ear when I see him

    Take care

Welcome to the Warrior Forum, Lou and Greg. I hope you make a lot of friends.

Your living situation sounds ideal to me!

I also second the motion for a picture of Greg especially in that I am a dog lover with no dog. My favorite is the Irish Wolfhound but I love just about anybody with four legs and a big shiny black nose.

Have a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.

Thank you kindly for the compliment Dennis.

Hiding under the bed with your laptop might be a good idea if you don't have the luxury of a shed at the bottom of your garden.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

A dog biscuit will do just fine. Got to keep Greg happy. His head is resting on my knee right now looking up at me with his eyes melting.

      Bless him.

May you too enjoy your Christmas with your family and friends.

The snow isn't too bad, pretty much melted now. Got my Guinness here, chin chin!

I hope you're larder is full of Christmas cheer Karen.

Put some Irish music on for me and I'll dance a gig for you anyday.

Bet it's warmer down under Audrey. Count your blessings. It's pretty cold here. Fire in the hearth though is good company.

I'll post up a pic of Greg very soon.

May you too thoroughly enjoy your Christmas in the sun!

I do love greyhounds. Beautiful dogs.

Elance? I may be a doddery old fool at times, cantankerous, irritable, talk to myself and dribble in my sleep but writing for Elance doesn't appeal to me one bit!

Though money isn't a strong motivating factor in my life I do have my standards lol!

A wee lass after my own heart. Give Griffin a rub behind his ear for me please and tell him I said hello, woof woof.

You sound quite the romantic. A bit of a daydreamer. Nothing wrong with that. A good heart no doubt and despite everything... a cheerful spirit.

I hope you enjoy a lovely time this Christmas!

How about my nose? What do you think of it Patrician? Looking into my Guinness it's also a bit wet... if a bit red!

Thank you everyone so far for your lovely and warm big hearted welcome messages.

      We really appreciate it.

Greg is wagging his tail in agreement.

Time to put my feet up in front of the fire, open up some very, very old Christmas whiskey and sing quietly to myself and Greg a carol or two before nodding off to sleep.

All is good with the world.

Hi Guys, welcome -- and Merry Christmas to couple of like minded souls.

I don't have the pleasure of a mountain cabin at the moment, but will be exchanging my temporary stay with my sister for my Idaho Mountains again next year. Getting a break from real winter this year. Not all it's cracked up to be, actually. Next year I will introduce Ricky to snow.

My Muncher boy died last year (pic in my profile pics) - we also did everything together. I miss talking with him terribly. I have the fortune, however, to have found a new pal. He was dying when I got here, but I put a stop to that and so he is mine now, although he's not quite the conversationalist Munch was, we're having a very good time tromping in the wilderness together whenever we can get out there.

Sounds like you have quite a life. If you have the land and a dog -- there isn't much else you really could want. Not that I can think of anyway.

More than a little red Patrician.

Friends invited me to spend Christmas with them. First at 11am on Christmas morning a charity swim off the beach before heading to the pub for a quick totty.

Five pints later, one double rum and coke and a neat double vodka we headed off to my friends house. Down another few bottles of wine, sherry etc before eating Christmas dinner at 6pm.

Lots of carol singing, playing guitar, fiddle, flute and whistle, party games, charades etc it was a right knee's up ball.

Disappeared to another friends house at around midnight, a good 2 mile walk away, left there after downing another bottle of wine at about 3:30am. Arrived back here after walking another 2 miles at around 4:30am. Promptly fell asleep for 20 hours straight through.

Now feeling right as rain again.

Looking forward to the year ahead. Right now creating another information product. Got to do something quickly to pay for all that drink lol!

I hope you too enjoy a wonderful new year!

I agree Heysal. A man or a woman come to that needs no more than a couple of fields in the countryside and a good view to be happy, content and at peace with oneself. Nothing better than walking on your own land with your dog for company.

May you lass have a lovely new year!
